5.0 out of 5 stars Good fun, even for Mum, 24 Feb 2005
By K. M. Brooke "avid reader" (Godalming, Surrey United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
My 9-yr old son received the first two books of this third series for Christmas, and we find Emily Rodda still in good form. Lief, Jasmine and Barda leave Del on another dangerous quest that will take them throughout the kingdom, meeting with old friends along the way. This time they must awake the dragons of Deltora and destroy an evil that the Shadow Lord buried within the land many years ago. Everyone thought the Shadow Lord was defeated, but this evil has poisoned the land and the starving people have begun to turn against Lief. As usual, the plot moves along briskly as they bravely and cleverly face one challenge after another.
I thought the second book (Shadowgate) was more imaginatvie and had more surprises, but both the books were very enjoyable. While waiting for this series we have read the Artemis Fowl books, and although my son now finds Ms. Rodda's books a bit simplistic by comparison, I still think these would suit almost any child to about age 10-11. I still want to know what happens myself!

DELTORA QUEST 3

Dragon’s Nest

Dragon’s Nest is one of the best stories I have ever read, with thrilling and exciting adventures. Emily Rodda has written lots of book before Dragon’s Nest but I think Dragon’s Nest is definitely the best one.
The main characters are Lief, Barda and Jasmine who find out that there are four ‘sisters’ who are poisoning the lands of Deltora.
Lief, Barda and Jasmine’s first destination is in the East, in Dragon’s Nest.
Leif is the heir to the throne of Deltora and is the son of King Endon. Barda is a strong and brave man who was captain of the guards and son of Min, the Queen’s maid. Jasmine is an agile, stubborn, young girl who grew up in the Forest Of Silence and is daughter of the legendary Doom.
The story leads the characters into the Os-mine Hills and out into the Endwood where they meet up with an old friend. Their travels lead them to Dragon’s Nest where they fall into danger and trickery. This is a great story for younger readers and teenagers who love fantasy and adventure.
I have absolutely no dislikes about Deltora Quest books.
In my opinion, they are extremely well written, irresistible and exciting to read.
