From Amazon.co.uk

Co-produced by Hong Kong legend Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle), Dragonball Evolution is an agreeable if low-wattage live action adaptation of the iconic manga and anime series Dragon Ball. Director James Wong fuses the series’ fantasy-based characters and devices with a somewhat lacklustre storyline involving average teen Goku (Justin Chatwin), who breaks from his wholesale pining for classmate Chi-Chi (Jamie Chung) to find that he’s at the center of an intergalactic search for the all-powerful Dragonballs by evil warlord Piccolo (Buffy’s James Marsters). With the help of master Roshi (Chow Yun-Fat, who backburners his stoic screen image in favor of some God of Gamblers/Once a Thief-level hamminess), Goku develops his fighting skills to take on Piccolo and save the Earth. The film’s abundance of martial arts should please younger and less discerning viewers, but its hackneyed dialogue and sluggish pace (especially in the fight scenes, which stutter where they should flow) may disappoint longtime fans of the book and television adaptations. The CGI effects, which labour mightily to reproduce the source material’s eye-popping look, also fall short, though the cast is game, especially Marsters and Chow.--Paul Gaita, Amazon.com

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Garbage 19 Feb 2010
Format:DVD
DO NOT BUY THIS DVD. The movie makes a complete mockery of the dragonball franchise, Goku isn't a kid, Goku doesn't go to high school, Piccolo is green, the kamehameha wave is NOT a wind technique and CANNOT HEAL PEOPLE!!!!! I could list all the problems with this movie but it would take up two much time which I really do not want to waste reviewing this movie. But I'm going to keep this as short as I can. Dragonball Evolution is an incredibly short film that was terribly thought out holding no decent tribute to Dragonball, it's only positive outcome is the money it gave the creators for murdering a decent anime.

btw if you think that the action scenes might be good, you are wrong. There is one half decent fight between Goku and some high school guys but THAT IS IT. The climactic battle between Goku and Piccolo amounts to ONE PUNCH!!!!!

So please don't buy this, it's horrible!

And with that my rant is over

1.0 out of 5 stars utter sacks! 15 Oct 2009
Format:DVD
to be fair this was never going to be a classic, but still i hoped they would stay true to the manga and tv series. what the hell was roshis island doing in the middle of a crater in the city?!? maybe someone tried to bomb james wong for making the movie, but missed. my one star goes to james marsters who i thought actually did really well as piccolo and deserves credit for giving it a go! i eagerly await a sequel!

1.0 out of 5 stars Surfing off the franchise name 8 Sep 2009
Format:Blu-ray
Well as an avid dragonball/z fan i can honestly say this movie was a complete shambles to anyone who has seen dragonball and knows the story, to anyone who hasn't they might find it enjoyable, but even then i dount the guy i went to see it with doesn't watch the anime and didn't enjoy it at all , the story is very disjointed from itself and bares hardly any relevance to the original other than there some guys called goku, roshi, yamcha and piccolo and some girls called chichi and bulma but it manages to invent some out of nowhere and then forget some of the greatest characters in the show (tienshinhan and krillin) the movie is awful and i would not recommend it to anyone , the fight scenes aren't even good from what i remember it was mnostly goku running around as an oozaru....( for some bogus movie reason).
Do not waste your money.
