Quenelda has always had a magical bond with dragons, and her greatest wish is to fly one and fight alongside her father in the war against the hobgoblins.
Root, on the other hand, wishes only to avoid the fearsome creatures, so the role of Quenelda's esquire is the last thing he needs.
But an unexpected friendship is forged, and when Dragons Dome is besieged by a deadly plot, this unlikely duo must find a way to defeat the dark forces.
Epic battles, whispered legends and soaring magic combine in this breathtaking debut fantasy, Book One of the Dragonsdome Chronicles, with black and white illustrations by David Wyatt.

Impossible to put down,
This review is from: The Dragon Whisperer (Hardcover)
I've been really lucky to sneak a preview of the Dragon Whisperer. It is one of those books which is almost impossible to put down once started.... the story is simply too exciting!!! From the first page to the last, the author cleverly manages to the keep story flowing while painting vivid images of an exciting new world. She skillfully intertwines nail-biting excitement with the evil of dark magic carefully interspaced with humour to lead the reader in a roller-coaster of emotions. Boys will love the SDS - the Stealth Dragon Services clearly modelled on the SAS who fight the hobgoblin hoards with high magic instead of high technology, and girls will empathise with the uniquely talented Quenelda, who can talk and heal even the fiercest of the dragons. A great read for 9 - 99 years old!
I can't wait for the next book in the series .....

A fabulous story for all ages,

I had a tip off that this book is going to be the next big thing and pre-ordered a copy which arrived yesterday. I couldn't put it down and have just finished the last page. It is a wonderful story of a girl who can talk to dragons and her unlikely friendship with Root, her dwarf esquire.
The world that Lucinda creates is rich and vivid and totally believable. The characters are real and leap off the page and the dragons are brought alive skillfully. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up at the dramatic conclusion and I am left waiting impatiently for the next book in this trilogy.

What a great debut. The writing is engaging right from the very start and you always feel like you are "in the thick of it". The story draws you in and, most refreshingly, the author does not talk down to the reader. It shows that good fantasy doesn't always have to be about vampires! Even though at 35 I am much older than the intended audience, the three-dimensional characters convinced me and swept me along for the adventure. I can't wait for the author's next book.
