Product Description

Synopsis
A child bride widowed at a tender age, Princess Eleanor swore never to wed again, taking a vow of eternal chastity, but Simon de Montfort could make her change her mind.

From the Author
I would like to thank the readers for their generous praise.
I was absolutely thrilled to read the reviews posted by readers of THE DRAGON AND THE JEWEL. I am currently writing another medieval that tells the history of what happened where this books leaves off. Tentatively titled THE POWER AND THE GLORY.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not One of Her Better Ones, 20 Aug 1999
By A Customer
The Dragon and The Jewel was not, when compared to her other work, one of her better ones. The fact alone that Eleanor was previously married to someone she loved and no longer untouched was enough to dampen my enthusiasm. Eleanor did not deserve Simon she didn't seem to connect to him and his feelings. The usual teasing and banter that makes us laugh out loud, much to our embarassment, was lacking in this one. However, it was still a worthwhile read simply for the fact that Henley wrote it. Her story telling is wonderful and it does transport you back in time. I would love a book on Rickard and Michael De Burgh's life.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Dragon & The Jewel will always be my favorite book!, 4 Jan 1998
By A Customer
Virginia Henley is the best! I though history boring until I began reading her novels. Now I'm a history buff. The Dragon & The Jewel is the first historical romance novel I read & I quickly became hooked. I've now been to England/Scotland/Wales/Ireland twice to trace the history that she portrays in this wonderful book and her others. She really does her homework!!! The facts are accurate & the places artfully described! She's unbelievable! Standing at the entrance of the castle, you really can imagine Simon & Eleanor rushing back to Chepstow. Their "beloved Kenilworth Castle" is awesome & you can imagine their lives there thanks to the picture that Virginia paints of life & events at those times. Some people laugh at romance novels - but I challenge them to tell me what they know about world history & my knowledge leaves them in the dust - all because artists like Virginia Henley make it interesting & real for us! Thank You Virginia!

4.0 out of 5 stars I know what u want to know, 21 Oct 2006
By Babycandy "Candy" (England, Europe) - See all my reviews
Basically I personally think that any person reading the story at first would think that the story was about elenor and her first husband but virginia henley was actually trying to say in the story at the begining was that elenor was looking for a father figure and when she did finally find heeself in love with simon that love was of a woman for a man, the story was great and very sensual with a lot of intrigue in there as well as betrayal.
