About the Author
Adam Roberts is Professor of 19th Century Literature at London University. Three of his novels have been shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award. He has also published a number of academic works on both 19th century poetry and SF.

Like the Pride Prejudice and Zombies, and Sense Sensibility and Sea Monsters books, this is a conceit following the rough outline of a highly successful original book - in this case Steig Larssons 'the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' - but also attempting to plough its own furrow. I feel it's very difficult to find the ideal balance between an original thought and keeping the whole purpose of the book - ie a satire (or something) on Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The book is well written and for any fantasy fiction fan who hadn't read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, it would no doubt be an interesting read. For me, it's just made me want to go back and reread the original. Good Try but no cigar.

No you haven't read wrong. This is a new fantasy fiction by Roberts, a pardony but still a really great read.
In a world where humans are the myth, a young dragon Salamander must overcome great obstacles to find the truth behind a conspiracy that not only affects her life but all of dragon kind as well. The disappearance of a dragon some fifty years ago leads Salamander and her reporter friend on the trail of secrets and lies that culminates with the uncovering of a terrifying new world. With vicious lies, terrible secrets, and brutal torture can they survive against the greed for a world of gold.
A thrilling adventure that turns human prejudice on its head, with an ending that even the dragon didn't see coming.

The idea is really good and well executed. You should have read the original Girl with a Dragon Tattoo in order to fully appreciate it. It is amusing and more for children than for adults.
