A young dragonet Auron, becomes Champion of the Clutch. He is a scaleless grey and has two sisters, but one day a band of murderous dwarves and eleves slay their mother and Auron flees with his sister. Then they are forced to split up and thus begins Aurons' adventures to becoming a dragon, from his first flight to his mating. He will meet many allies and make many enemies as he searches for the black dragon to discover the weakness of dragons and also to find out who killed his family and to avenge them. A wonderfull book, beautifully described and with great style. Mr Knight writres with a great hand and this is a must read for all dragan fans and fantasy lovers. I could not put this book down, it was gripping and a real page turner.

This book is an absolute treasure! I received the whole set for my birthday this morning and from 9am to 5pm I did not put this book down!
I've now finish the first and am half way through the second book. If you love dragons and want to read a dragon book, get this whole set!

I have already recommended these to my friends.. If you're contemplating buying this book, stop thinking, buy it and enjoy a thoroughly good story!

When I first got this book I was a bit surprised how thick it was, and how long tha chapters where. Despite this, it was absolutly brilliant! Auron, the main character, running from the dwarfs, escaping the ship, burning a fleet, running with wolf packs...I couldn't put it down, a defiant must-read for all dragon lovers.

The only problems in this book came around the middle and near the end, at the time when Auron was travaling across Walander with Djer and just after he gets his wings. At thesectwo points in the book I got bored andwas reduced to skimming the pages rather than reading them properly. With these being the only downfalls, I conclude by saying that this is a defiant five -star, I'm already quartor of the way through the second book, and that ones even better!

This is easily one of the best books I have ever read. Solid, self enclosed plot with interesting characters in a setting that feels genuinely unique, and perhaps most importantly gets right into the characters head in a way that is rarely done so well. Making an enormous fire spitting dragon in any way relatable whilst still retaining possession of a subtly alien and sympathetic mind is a challenge worthy of the ages.

Dragons are often included in fantasy books, either as a big bad, gubbins to move the plot along or rarely as a major character with their own story arc. What often falls short about sympathetic dragons in this role is that few authors invest the time to explore their motivations or thought processes in a concise way without labelling them as 'really just big scary misunderstood people with a few odd habits'. Why would a dragon want to collect treasure? Why would such a creature even have any interest in the affairs of others? This book does it. Right from the get-go we're thrust into the fast-and-the-dead world of AuRon, whose life we follow from his birth to the siring of his own clutch. He doesn't think like a human. His mind and thought process has a predatory vibe and lacks human traits such as empathy and compassion. Predictably he gets up to things that any apex predator without empathy or compassion would do; he eats people; He has no qualms about killing where he needs to, and he is more or less self centered. The way the author pulls this off however never leads the reader into disliking him any more than you would dislike a cat for catching birds. Furthermore it makes the development of the character all the more fascinating as he learns these qualities through interactions with other species.

Format: Paperback
This book is just too short! As soon as you pick it up and read the first page you're hooked. I went through this book in just a few hours and enjoyed it from start to finish. It's not the usual 'dragon type book', it's about really wild animals that have to kill to survive. There are some sentimental parts to it as well, which I felt added to the strength of the book. It makes you believe that dragons may have been a real creature and not just another mystical being.
As I said, this book is only flawed by the pace you will go through it because it is impossible to put down. Cancel a few hours and read it, you won't be sorry.

This was order alongside several other books of this series. This package did arrive a little earlier than the expected date however I was delighted that it did. Was surprised when it was only partially dispatched but understood the reasoning behind it, the other half arrived shortly after. Product quality was spot on and packaging was adequate for what was sent. All in all a nice experience and will be doing business more in the future.
