Well being a absolutely GIANT fan of Bioware and of the Mass Effect series I didn't hesitate buying this when Dragon Age was first released, after playing this game I never really looked back. You have a choice of 3 races either Human, Elf or Dwarf but each of these races have a different Origin, the Human (Human Noble or Human Mage), Elf (Elf Mage, Dalsh or City Elf) and Dwarf (Noble or Commener.) Which Origin you choose makes a difference how people react and treat you. You are chosen by a stranger called Duncan, who you find out later is the leader of a group of mighty warriors called the Grey Wardens sworn to defend the lands against Darkspawn (twisted creatures intent on killing and tainting anything that comes into contact with them.) In the story the legend states every few centuries the Darkspawn find a slumbering Dragon and infect it with their taint thus becoming something the Wardens call an Archdemon which will lead the swarms of Darkspawn into battle which has been named the Blight. Your character goes through a sacred ritual known as The Joining, and your own Grey Warden is born. The job of the Wardens is to defend Ferelden and its people and eventually slay the Archdemon if a Blight should ever arise.
The characters who join you on your journey are absolutely fantastic you have Alistair, your fellow grey warden, who I have to say is TOTALLY adorable and you'll find it hard NOT to fall in love with him (well I did anyway lol you'll see why when you play and some of his lines have you laughing out loud quite often) Leliana travelling Minstrel, Wynne and Mage of the Circle, Sten a mighty warrior from a race called the Qunari, Mabari War Hound, Morrigan a illegal mage (known as an apostate which will be explained when you play the game lol), Zevran an Antivan Crow Assassin, Oghren a Dwarf who likes his drink lol and one of the DLC characters in this game that you'll certainly love is a Stone Golom called Shale. The characters in the game have been brought to life by the excellent voice talent-Steve Valentine as Alistair for such an example-oh and you may regcognise a few voices from Mass Effect too ;). I also LOVE the touch of having the choice of being able to romance some of your fellow travellers it certainly adds a more personal touch to the game.
The DLC and the expansion Awakenings is definately worth it as it delves ever deeper into the lands of Ferelden so even if your characters journey has ended there's still more to be done =)
All in all to those who have not played this game please do so =) its a fantastic id certaily give it thumbs up as well as 10/10. This is certainly one game i wil NEVER tire of. Roll on Dragon Age 2.
