In 1987 moviegoers had yet to be crushed under the weight of the 1990s TV remake mania, and Dragnet comes off as fresh and funny. The line between parody and tribute can be hard to draw, but any marginally hip baby boomer who has ever watched Jack Webb's straight-laced Detective Joe Friday caught a glimmer of the comedic vein waiting to be mined beneath Dragnet's gritty Los Angeles streets. Dan Aykroyd plays Joe Friday, the straight-arrow nephew of Webb's iconic cop. This part was made for him (in fact, he's given top writing credit), and under his steely exterior you can tell he's having a ball delivering those rapid-fire recitations of regulations and deadpan expressions of moral outrage. Tom Hanks plays Pep Streebek, the laissez-faire narco agent who is Friday's new partner. Their assignment: bust the Pagans, a wild-and-woolly gang of dope fiends, deadbeats, and beatniks behind a bewildering array of bizarre robberies. Hilarity ensues. Friday and Streebek outfox a corrupt televangelist (Christopher Plummer), bicker over chili dogs and cigarettes, alternately revile and fawn over a porn millionaire (Dabney Coleman), wrestle a 30-foot-long anaconda, and rescue the virgin Connie Swail--the only girl capable of stealing Friday's heart. --Grant Balfour, Amazon.com

Blues Brothers in another form. A young Tom Hanks works with Dan Ackroyd in this fun comedy about two policeman who couldn't be more opposite in their behaviours that have to work together. Just a laugh a minute.

A comedy in several layers. A caricature of the old films, using a narrator offstage, dialogues with long lines, obliging the characters to a fast paced speaking, a constant rattling. A wonderful "detailed" script
Warning: Don't watch this film during the night and the windows open. I laughed like a jerk with the offstage narrator.

I can remember the Dragnet series on the T.V. and this spoof is bang on target as it very cleverly mimics the original then goes just a step further to turn every situation into a laugh. It is a very very funny film and the goat dance is an all time classic.

2 cops - one straight laced, the other a lout - are called in to bring down a new terror: P.A.G.A.N, a religious nutcase organisation threatening to take over. Cue some of the best comedy you will ever see - Dan Akroyd is superb and Tom Hanks is at his funniest (you know, the time before he started winning too many awards) All in all, a masterpiece that deserves to be in everyone's collection

I love this film with its wacky comedy 50s feel yet 90s etc and the chicks . The opposites paired together for comic crime fighting chaos never has me tired .Great buy . Yes I have seen it before , and just ordered it .

In the time before Oscar nominations, Tom Hanks was doing dodgy comedies like this one , and Turner & Hooch , The Man with the one red shoe , Splash etc. These movies, this one in paticular are great ways to spend ( or suspend) a couple of hours, veggin out on the sofa with a big bag of chips . It's great family entertainment , great fun , great interaction between the characters & great value. Kick the kids out into the back yard , and snuggle up with your girlfriend for this one. Reviews usually say " If you see one film this year ...see this one". Im not going to, I'll just say " See this once , you wont regret it "

Classic Aykroyd and Hanks film a laugh out loud a minute. I would and have recommended this movie to friends who sadly did not get chance to see this in the 80's

This has to be one of the best cop comedies ever, including the many new ones. Dan Aykroyd plays the cop who follows the rules whilst Tom Hanks is the cop who breaks the rules but gets things done. It is a brilliant comedy and which has both Aykroyd and Hanks at their comic best. It may be a cliche but they don't make films like this any more, it has comedy similar to that of most of Aykroyd and Hank's early stuff like the Ghost Busters and Big. The DVD very short of extras, besides the usual scene selection and menu, it only actually has - Production Notes, Filmographies, Trailer, and Web Link, but the film itself is well worth having in your collection if you are a fan of either actor or comedy in general.
