Product Description

The legendary Kid Congo Powers returns to the psychedelic jungle with a stripped-down, no-frills set of volcanic songs. The premier voodoo guitarist for seminal sexy, swampy bands like Gun Club, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, and The Cramps, Powers is a restless aesthete whose earlier solo efforts explored and mixed genres. With Dracula Boots, he comes back to his roots as a cracker jack guitarist playing the primitive music that inspired him, the raw sounds of garage and early Chicano rock.

Yet again the Kid comes up with goods. Not sure what makes this album so good it's fairly minimal at times but it gets in your head and trances you out in a rocky way. Odd but accessable sure their are some dark arts being employed. If you like any of the bands that KCP has been in then you won't be disappointed . cool dark late night music .

Amazon.co.uk holds Kid Congo Powers as a "legend". Well, a legend by proxy more like. While there is no denying Congo did participate in the making of "cool" albums by "cool" bands (The Cramps' "Psychedelic Jungle" to name but one), the stuff on "Dracula Boots" is not the stuff of "legend". Despite the glowing reviews you might have read in some rock mags. I am fully aware this LP will please the "garage-y" demographic, as it presses some of the right buttons for that clique, but it has to be stressed that the music on it fails by far to be anything like "The First Born Is Dead" (by The Bad Seeds) or on The Gun Club's first album (which was not that good in the first place, except "Sex Beat"). So, no crossover potential and no special value for the general public. In my opinion, anyone with interest in music should have a listen to albums such as "Fun House" by the Stooges, or "Ace Of Spades" by Motorhead, even though they come from niches in the rock spectrum. That is because these albums trancend genres as the masterpieces they are. "Dracula Boots" is not in this category. It sounds like Blues Explosion on tranquilizers. It even gets "early prog" at some point on side one. It seriously lacks a demented or at least a committed singer. At the end of the day, it sounds like "easy listening garage rock" or "batcave-y rock for musos".

THE KID HAS JOURNEYED TO THE CENTER OF THE PSYCHEDELIC JUNGLE! 31 Jan. 2010

Finally! I've been a supporter (fan) of Kid Congo Powers since his daze w/ the Gun Club. When he finally went solo (chollo), I've been buying (& diggin') his rekkidz, & sometimes he really "nail's it". Other tymes-slightly off...hard to say exactly what it was, but sometimes, something was missing. Well, with "Dracula Boots", the Kidster truly has "nailed it". The whole album cooks 'n' gurgles with a voodoo smell wafting thru the ether & beyond. Thanks Kid. Yer THERE, ese!!! You, my friend, are, indeed, rare as a yeti. kiDD squiDD

AN ALARMING RED THAT SWIRLS ! 17 Feb. 2010
By Shahril Fadly Shamsuri - Published on Amazon.com

Great Red and alarming cover, minimal yet it offers a catchy swirl technicolor of A Go Go sounds. A brave innovative approach, very rare indeed, and the best part, this vinyl will definately make you hooked to it after you've spin it for a test run. Recommended & it certainly, I may say cheap, for a sounds that worth a near 5 stars album. Minimal! Bold! And Spooky...
