I am a huge Paradise Lost Fan and in my opinion, this is their best album ever, and one which I'm sorry to say they may never equal. As most Paradise Lost fans know, the group seems to have gone through 3 phases in their life cycle: Death Metal (the first 2 albums), Gothic Metal (the next 3 of which Draconian Times is the last) and the new-age rock electronica (the last 3 albums). Personally I'm a huge fan of the middle 3 and Draconian Times is clearly the best of them all. Fans of 'Shades of God' and especially 'Icon' will love this album seeing that it is the natural progression from them. Fans of the first 2 albums may not like it seeing that it moves further away from the Death Metal sound of their earlier days. Fans of their new music may want to check it out to see what Paradise Lost was all about. In my opinion a must for every self respecting Gothic and Paradise Lost fan.

Timeless 30 Sep 2004
By G. Lewis VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
This album sounds as fresh today as it did when it was released. Every song is beautifully written in a way that allows you to tell each song apart. Some albums you listen to have a collection of songs that seem to blend into one another into a 45 minute drone. Draconion Times however will have you remembering the names of the songs, reading the plush inlay booklet (ltd edition box) and singing the choruses. The style is almost a cross between Metallica and Sisters of Mercy - its metal with depth and harmony. The songs that stand out for me are Hallowed Land, Enchantment, Shadow Kings, Elusive Cure and Jaded.

Best Ever 19 Nov 2003
Format:Audio CD
I came across 'Paradise Lost' by accident, I bought it because I liked the cover (I do that a lot!), it turned out to be the most stunnig album that I have listened to in a while,my partner liked it so much that now it lives in the car on c.d.. I later on bought 'Host' so disappointed with that that it just gathers dust, also bought 'Reflection'a 'best of' which was better,it shows of the vocals and guitars to extremes, from ballad to out and out metal, superb, buy it or buy both!!

should be "required listening" for metalheads
This is more than just "mere" music. It is fascinating to think about what might've been going through the minds of the band when they came up with this stuff. Read more

Stylish
Im not a metal fan, the genre seems dated and all too often a satire of itself which is, at best, embarrasing for all involved. Read more
