5.0 out of 5 stars Great books for MRCS preparing 22 Sep 2010
Now I own both DrExam series volumes for MRCS OSCE which are very comprehensive together. New syllabus is covered and have lots colour images, great radiology and anatomy cases with all basic sciences, principles, safety, critical care, surgical skills etc covered. Very structured and classified with lots of Q&As and explanations of answers. DVD with book 2 is really great and worthy of buying the book alone for. These are now my main revision books as they have more information than lots of my other MRCS books together - must buy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Useful book 13 Oct 2010
I got this book late before my exam. The physiology and critical care part of it are nicely written in a question and answer format, it actually made many topics ,which I use to preceive as being difficult, easy to understand, like for example action potentials.
The little anatomy present in the book is very relevent to the exam but it is clearly not enough. As I said I got it only few day before my exam and I did not read the other chapters, anyway, it is a good book and I do recommend it with its more and highly successful part 2 book.

I am currently preparing to take the new MRCS and am preparing for PART B solely from the two books in this series. The question and answer format is well suited to the exam style yet the books still manage to be comprehensive covering all sections of the OSCE.

The prosections are fantastic and mean that trawling through a dense anatomy atlas is unnecessary. Some of my colleagues who have taken the exam had a look at the books for me before I got them and assure me that the anatomy in the exam doesn't get any harder and that alot of it will revolve around naming structures and anatomical relationships and their clinical significance. This book covers this very well.

The radiology section is also well suited to the exam and very user friendly with many images and suggested structures for systematic interpretation and presentation of various imaging modalities - always a sure fire way of picking up a lot of marks.

I think that overall these books are a sensible way of preparing for the OSCE without having to buy a book for each area and inevitably going into unnecessary detail. I don't own any other books but I obviously compared similar books in the shop and asked my friends for advice. In my opinion if you're going to buy only two books and you are taking the new style exam, these are the two to get.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beware Sham Reviews 2 Oct 2010
As someone involved in the publication of this book, I would not normally write a review. However I am writing to expose the 'one star' review submitted by knp3 as a deliberate attempt to undermine a competing title. Knp3 claims that this book was no use in getting him (or her) through the exam. What is interesting is that this book was published AFTER the last exam and the next exams start next week. Why on earth, one asks oneself, did knp3 purchase a Revision Guide for an exam he or she had already passed? This is clearly a bogus review and one only has to look at knp3's other review to begin to suspect some sort of rivalry or vested interest. We had been warned, as publishers, that these sort of dirty tricks were likely but we didn't really believe competitiors would stoop so low. As for me - I have given the book 5 stars as I am aware of the great feedback already received from buyers who have bought direct from Libri. I also know just how excellent the content is, having been involved in the production at all levels. Shame on knp3 - unfortunately, Amazon can't really do much about bogus reviews but this is really an underhand way to go on and it is a pity there isn't some way of removing such a blatant piece of nonsense.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very very Good 1 April 2012
The DrExam MRCS Part B Revision Guides Vol 1 & 2 provide a framework for focussed preparation for the exam that meant I passed first time without attending a course. There are a few mistakes in it - hence 4 and not 5 stars - (e.g. Thyroid develops from 1st and 2nd pharyngeal pouch) but am sure these will be ironed out in future editions. I found the layout and depth absolutely ideal and having a DVD is very useful for clinical examinations you haven't had demonstrated to you before (for me this included hand examination). Well done for a well prepared revision guide and thanks!

If you want a clearly laid out, concisely written book that cuts the fluff yet gives you the detail you need for the exam and finally clarify those things you never really grasped, this book is definately worth a buyA Without a doubth the best book I have ever bought and certainly what you need if, like me, you have left your revision rather to the last minute! Definately one to recommend!DrExam Part B MRCS OSCE Revision Guide: Applied Surgical Science and Critical Care, Anatomy and Surgical Pathology, Surgical Skills and Patient Safety Bk. 1
