These minifigures from Character Building are remarkably detailed for the tiny size and are a lot of fun. If you already have Lego (or similar) bricks they are perfectly compatible for scene creation, but if, like me, you just want to collect the range they are relatively inexpensive and addictive.
Each humanoid figure comes in at least three parts; head, torso, legs and each also has a little base in the shape of the TARDIS 'DW' logo to display them on. The Doctor figures come with his sonic screwdriver, the angels have a separate wing piece, the Smilers a tabbard, and Amy and the Silurian have separate skirt/tunic pieces. The Daleks have rather more pieces including very very tiny eyestalk, gun and plunger that fit snugly to the main toy but I think are very likely to get lost if you aren't careful. The figure's pieces are swappable within the Character Building ranges (Doctor Who and
Character Building H.M. Armed Forces Micro-Figure Foil Pack) but not with Lego.
Each figure comes in a blind bag, so you won't know which character you're buying until you open the pack. For kids there is probably the opportunity for playground swaps, but it can be a little irritating to keep finding the same common figures. There are 10 different figures in the first wave assortment: The Doctor in his jacket, Drone (red) Dalek and Cyberman are most common; Amy, Weeping Angel (screaming), Silurian Restac, Strategist (blue) Dalek and Smiler are harder to find; the Weeping Angel (serene) and Doctor in his shirtsleeves are rare. There are also some super rare figures that have been made in exceedingly small quantity (only a few hundred in total for the whole production run) - congratulations if you find a Raggedy Doctor, green jacketed Amy, Silurian Alaya, transparent Angel or Doctor in football kit.
Wave 2 is due out soon, with 10 new figures, and I for one can't wait to see my collection expand!
