Product Description

Product Description

While cleaning the attic, Lucia Viti stumbled upon an ancient Harry & David fruit box stuffed with Vietnam memorabilia–the remnants of Dr Tom Viti’s tour of duty in 1967 as a Battalion Surgeon in An Hoa. Lucia, overcome with a need to reconnect with her father’s memory, spent four years traveling across America and interviewing Marines of the Second Battalion Fifth Marine Regiment, First Marine Division, who served alongside her father. This quest to learn about a Dr. Tom she never knew turned into a unique journey of discovery through the eyes of a brotherhood of young men that weaves the Marine Corps Esprit de Corps with the horrors of war through a first-hand perspective on combat life “in-country” in Vietnam in 1967.

Dr. Tom's WarHaving had the priviledge to have met this man there is not one word that surprises me, even the fact that he became 'Public enemy No1' does not surprise me. He was an incredably kind, generous and funny man and Lucia has portrayed him as the hero he obviously was to so many. The book made me laugh and cry and taught me a great deal about the Vietnam war. As a teacher I shall be recommending this to the history department at my school as it gives a vivid picture of what really happened and how atrocities like this should never be allowed to happen again.
Well done Lucia, you've done yourself and your 'Pops' proud. I shall continue to spread the word, everyone should read this book.

Dr. Tom's War 27 May 2011

I could not put the book down once I started reading it. The book is an unbelievable piece of detective work into Dr. Tom Viti's life while he was a Battalion Surgeon assigned to the 2nd Battalion 5th Marines during the Vietnam War in 1967. All of the anecdotes were real and told by the Marines and Corpsmen that survived some of the bloodiest battles of the Vietnam War. Great job by the book author Lucia Viti. The book is a must read for everyone.

Insightfull Tribute! 21 Dec 2011

In a war, where questions were asked and no answers found, there was Dr. Tom. A unsung hero to many, until this moment, when his daughter showed us what he and the marines were and are made of.
I am not a big fan of war novels, but this book is different. It shows the courage of men, the bond of the marines, and mostly the love of a daughter.
I have recommended this book to many, especially my female friends, who would never think of reading a book of this type. It's well written and a very informative. A must read for those who have or have not shared the stories of a veteran.

"WE WERE SOLDIERS" -&-"VIETNAM in HD' come ALIVE 7 Dec 2011
By Ronnie Guyer Vet- - Published on Amazon.com

This outsanding tribute to lovingly BRAVE Marines in combat not knowing what their future would bring them day to day, is a favorite Book on my facebook 'Info' page. LUCIA VITI granted me a pre-publication edition of 'Dr. Tom's War - A Daughter's Journey' ..and it is just OUTSTANDING. It now makes a superb follow-up to 'VIETNAM in HD' which airs on The History Channel, available in DVD and Blue Ray HD at bookstores and online. In this also OUTSTANDING TV Series War Correspondent JOSEPH GALLOWAY most lovingly shares our "WE WERE SOLDIERS" Battle of IA DRANG-1965 "They were noble" story ..as living testimony to an unsuspecting American audience. 'Dr. Tom's War - A Daughter's Joruney' = Same, Same..!!!
