Book Description

11 April 2002 Dr. Spot's Casebooks
'Dr Spot's Casebooks' is a series of simple stories for children aged 4-7. Each story is about a different animal character (for example Franklin, the Frog or Charlie, the Cheetah) and deals with a different medical or behavioural condition, for example measles or ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). In the books, Dr Spot the leopard doctor describes each condition in the context of the story and shows how it can be treated or handled. The stories are intended to be informative and reassuring, not only for children but also for parents/carers, for whom special parents' pages are included at the back of the books. These pages contain full information on symptoms, causes and action to be taken, including when to call in a doctor. In this title, Mike, the Monkey comes out in spots and feels uncomfortably itchy - until Dr Spot prescribes a soothing lotion.

We bought this book as our son has dyslexia but we didn't read it to him as we felt it would make him feel bad & lose his confidence.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best book out there 29 Dec 2012

Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book although has characters that may appeal to young children, I would find its portrayal of a child with ADHD quite negative.

There are other books out there which are much broader in their description of ADHD characteristics and are more light hearted and show the positive sides to having ADHD not just focusing on the difficult aspects.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best ADHD children's book I've found 27 Jun 2009
Format:Paperback
This is a lovely book, which my children clamour for. Zak is a very compelling character, and the detailed information about ADHD is cleverly sneaked into a funny and beautifully illustrated story.
