Product Description

The definitive biography of the beloved children's author re-released in celebration of the new musical "Seussical".. Horton, Thidwick, Yertle, the Lorax, the Grinch, Sneetches, and the Cat in the Hat are just a handful of the bizarre and beloved characters Theodor S. Geisel (19041991), alias Dr. Seuss, created in his forty-seven children's books, from 1937's And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street to 1990's Oh, the Places You'll Go! During his lifetime Dr. Seuss was honored with numerous degrees, three Academy Awards, and a Pulitzer, but the man himself remained a reclusive enigma. In this first and only biography of the good doctor, the authors, his close friends for almost thirty years, have drawn on their firsthand insights as well as his voluminous papers; the result is an illuminating, intimate portrait of a dreamer who saw the world "through the wrong end of a telescope," and invited us to enjoy the view.

Dr. Seuss, inspired by goose juice, held true to his thoughts in both words, pictures, and moose pouse . What we now take for granted as children's literature was unheard of before Ted Geisel met an old Dartmouth buddy on the streets of New York, depresssed at receiving over 20 rejections for his first children's book.

To Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street made it into our school and town libraries because Ted's friend was willing to read his story, and had a brand new job in the juvenile division in a publishing house that considered offbeat works. <PB> School to Work and School to Career collections need this book to support teachers, employers, and parents in making the connection between cerativity, social norms, and economic drivers of educational trends.

From Seuss's defense of his principles in publising partnerships to his thoughtful struggle with cancer, this book changed the way I teach at the College For Lifeling Learning. I'd read this book aloud to you if I could fit inside that little slot in the tape player.

"Dr. Seuss & Mr. Geisel" is not a critical biography of the creator of "The Cat in the Hat." What you will learn are the interesting little details in his career. Theodore Geisel grew up near Mulberry Street in Springfield, Massachusetts; started using his middle name as a pseudonym after being removed as editor of the Dartmouth College campus humor magazine "Jack-O-Lantern" having been caught drinking during Prohibition; and created the antlered dog in "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" in sketches drawn in the margins of his notes for zoology class. Ultimately the best parts of this book are the sort of things you would expect to find in a decent magazine article. It is understandable that there would be a biography of Dr. Seuss that focus on the sunny side of his life, but this certainly leaves room for a comprehensive examination of the life of a man whose work ranks with Mother Goose and Lewis Carroll. This book will help you pass the time until that one comes along.

The book Dr. Suess & Mr. Geisel written by Judith and Neil Morgan is the best biography that I have ever read. Suess' life is one that is very intriguing. Part of the reason is because of Suess' humor! It seems like nothing could keep him down for long and when it did, he would just laugh about it and get back on his feet again. This book could be called a page-turner. There is always a interesting fact on the next page. In this book Dr. Suess can really be seen as another regular class clown in normal class. I would recommend this biography as the best biography that I have ever read in my whole life.
