A CLEVERLY WRITTEN SCIENCE FICTION NOVEL

This is a clever and good book. The townspeople were simple, conservative, quiet, and slow-paced. But because of Dr. Ox's experiment, they are transformed into the opposite. It has a happy ending in which they are transformed back into their original selves.
a great mad scientist novel

Jules Verne was one of the first to write stories about a mad scientist conducting evil or unethical experiments. In this novel, Dr. Ox conducts an experiment driving a small quiet town to the verge of insanity and war. It is an amusing story and a lot of fun.
