These boots were a Christmas Present for my son in law he loves them, They were good Value and quality.
siamese | Fit: As expected
My fears are that now these boots are made in the far east they may not last like the DMs of yore, but so far so good.

Product Description

Product Description

This Men's Chelsea boot design is a classic and timeless style created by Dr Martens. The 2976 pull on boots are based on the original designs which are recognisable worldwide. The upper of the boot consists of smooth durable leather. The 2976 is branded with an embossed Dr Martens logo on the heel and edged with double stitched rows and two elasticated side panels on either side of the boot. At the rear of the boot is a pull tag with Dr Martens logo embroidered in a Bold Yellow. The Dr Martens famous hard wearing and slip resistant sole completes this great looking Men's Boot.

Manufacturer's Description

It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two founders decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On 1 April. 1960, the first cherry-red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Looking at the other reviews, I'm thinking "is it only me"?? Possibly the other reviews were written when the boots were new.
When I first received these, I would have given them 5 stars. They looked great and were a comfortable fit. But having worn them consistently to work (in an office) for about 7 months, they are already on the way out. The sole and heel tread has worn down considerably, and the leather has cracked in places almost completely through, despite me giving them a regular proper polishing.
A shame, as I had such high hopes. My local cobbler was not surprised. He says everyone expects modern DMs to be the same as the original British ones, but in reality the new ones are made in Thailand to a much lower standard, and actually have a different construction. Apparently the old ones would last (almost) forever, but forget it with the new ones.
2 stars, as they did look good out of the box. At the end of the day they are no worse than those bought on the high street for about the same money (£55). But my expectation was that they would give me a good few years wear, which they evidently have not.

Girls, if you wear size 6 (39 euro), these are 39-40, NOT 39. So as I saw a comment on this here, I bought 5 and 6 sizes and it was true - my foot was sinking in size 6 and size 5 fit perfectly. I can't say that it'll happen for everyone, but I always wear size 6 (39), so if returns are free, buy both sizes. I love Martens, quality is so good, but it really annoys me that they don't do size 39 and 40 separately. Why, Martens?? Why?

Twice the price of the copycats, but when it comes to the crunch, only DMs cut the mustard. Brilliantly made and as tough as old boots. Comfortable, to boot. Bootiful looking. I could go on...

very light shoe. I am a sales rep and ned a boot that can cope with sites, factories, all weathers and still be wearable in meetings and in the office.

I had been looking for a good pair of chelsea b otts for a while before coming across these, good value for money and surprisingly good quality

Excellent seller, easy to deal with. Product exactly as described arrived within the stated time. No complaints as I know I'll get several years of wear from them just like their predecessors I've worn over the past 20 years!

What can i say? They're Doc's. They are comfortable, dry, easy-wear yet classic smart. They will probably last me 20 yrs, minimum 10 yrs! They have got to be the best value in this or any other dimension.
A point worth noting is that they are slightly larger fitting than many high-street, often sweat-shop made, shoes.

I tend towards brand loyalty. I have been wearing DM's for years so have a lot of my friends. They are virtually indestructible! They still look and feel fantastic out of the box. However my last three pairs have been rubbish, developing splits within a few months of purchase. You wouldn't expect that of any shoe, let alone DM's. I look after my shoes very well. They always get a good going over with dubbin when they first arrive and are polished regularly after that. DM's have gone downhill over the last few years, a switch in manufacturing to somewhere in Asia (Thailand I heard but could be wrong) has lead to the quality of the leather being very poor. Doc Marten have presumably sacked their quality control people and gone for image and brand loyalty instead of quality. The once leather inner sole is now some perishable compound like cardboard. I counteracted this by putting in insoles. That worked, but why should you have to do this? The last three pairs developed splits very quickly (less than a year), the most recent pair, within a couple of months. The quality of DM's is very poor today. They are trading on brand loyalty to a once great name. I am happy to pay the price for a brilliant product, but for the crap they now produce, it's a waste of money. If shoes start to split after 2 or 3 months they are worthless! I have never owned such bad shoes as my current DM's. Their standard has dropped through the floor. You can buy imitations for less than £30, and why not? At £30 you probably don't care if your shoes fall apart in less than 6 months. I will be switching to another brand, any other brand! Maybe an Australian brand like Redbacks, I'll certainly never buy any more of this once proud product. Final verdict? Total crap!
