About Dr. Martens

With it's trademark yellow stitch, grooved sole and heel-loop, it was a boot worn by postmen, policemen and everyday workers; comfortable, durable and lightweight in comparison to… Read the story and more in Amazon's Dr. Martens Store.

8 Eye Boot

Product Description

The synthetic materials used in this boot are acutely vegan-friendly but this has not precluded quality, as this boot replicates the standard footwear down to the very last detail, even boasting a more natural feeling heel loop. The 8 Eyelet 1460 Boot is made with Goodyear welt and the upper and sole are heat-sealed and sewn together. Also features a Dr. Martens air-cushioned sole.

5.0 out of 5 stars Veggie Docs are back! 14 Jan 2012
By Steve Mansfield VINE VOICE
Colour Name:Black| Size Name:10 UK|Verified Purchase
After my last pair of veggie Docs were accidentally thrown away by a 'friend' in 2006, and I found out they'd stopped making them, I thought that me and Dr Martens were forever parted.

But they're back! They're proper Dr Martens, made by the company themselves (albeit overseas I believe, rather than in Northampton.

And they're vegan, even down to the glue.

Comfy as ever, really well built, a treat for your feet.

Shoes, for me, are usually utilitarian things that stop your feet getting damaged and give you extra grip. Veggie Dr Martens boots are probably the only pair of shoes I'd ever get remotely excited about - but here I am writing a 5 star Amazon review about mine ...

By K. P. Borley TOP 500 REVIEWER
As a vegan, finding a quality, stylish, waterproof boot has not been easy. Many of the boots I have tried have not been waterproof and have not lasted very long. So when I came across these I promptly purchased a pair and so far so good. They look just like a standard DM, so much so that I have to inform people that they aren't leather ! The quality seems good and they seem to be waterproof. In fact they seem to be the same quality, make and styling as the standard DM so pretty much like wearing them as you remember, but with the added bonus of not being made from the skin of a slaughtered animal. Of course the true test will be the test of time; will they stay waterproof and how long will they last ? If they fail at any time then I will update my review, so if there is no update then you know that they are still performing well (purchased in Sept 2012). I must say, I do have confidence that these will last a good many years. There is a thought within me that I am giving my money to a company that uses animal skins but I can see the positives in this product. The fact that a classic shoe/boot has been made specifically for vegans is something we should celebrate and it shows that veganism is making progress - and well done to Dr Martens for making these. I believe that in a few years time vegan will be as mainstream as vegetarian is today (as vegetarians realise that the only way to be cruelty free is to be vegan) so buying footwear will be easier, with more styles and choice. For today these certainly seem to tick all the boxes of being quality, stylish, waterproof and I would guess suitable for both male and female. Just one thing to note if you do buy them; you will need to wear them in first (as you would with the standard DM or any similar new shoe or boot). So soften them up at first with a couple of short wears before going for a long walk or wearing them all day long. My love to all the vegans out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ethics + Quality = Fantastic Product 6 July 2012
Colour Name:Black| Size Name:5 UK|Verified Purchase
For almost as long as I can remember I have swooned over the delightfully punk boots that are Dr Martens. Durable, comfortable and fashionable, DMs have a reputation for being some of the best boots on the market with only one problem: they are made from leather, or in other words, the skin of a dead animal. Years after Dr Martens pulled their original vegan line, the non-leather boot is back but apart from the tiny phrase 'Suitable for Vegans' printed on the insole, it's almost impossible to tell that these are made with entirely man-made materials. I've even had a few comments along the lines of "I didn't think vegans wore leather shoes" before I was able to explain that they were imitation. The same thing goes for durability and comfort: the boots feel and act as if they were made from real leather but with the added bonus of a shorter wearing-in period. As far as fashion goes, the boots maintain the classic DM look but with a few subtle differences from their leather counterparts such as the gold eyelets rather than black and a slight two-tone effect which are both nice touches.

At a similar price to the leather versions I would recommend these to anyone, vegan, vegetarian, omnivore or space alien, because they are simply wonderful. Thank you Dr Martens for bringing ethics and quality together, it's just a shame there aren't more colours available or I would be buying several more pairs.

5.0 out of 5 stars vegan docs 6 Mar 2013
Colour Name:Cherry Red| Size Name:9 UK|Verified Purchase
Having grown up with docs, as the essential footwear for every young lad ,but when I stopped eating animals I had to stop wearing them. However these vegan docs are ethical and stylish now so no reason not to wear them. They are very comfortable and seem wonderful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really great 8 Nov 2012
Colour Name:Cherry Red|Size Name:7 UK
Lovely boots, really nice colour and feel. They are however quite narrow so take a bit of breaking in and sore toes. But I am so happy they make a vegan version of cherry docs that I dont mind!
Brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect! 16 Feb 2014
Colour Name:Cherry Red| Size Name:9 UK|Verified Purchase
They're just what I wanted. I've always admired Docs but never got around to getting any so when I stopped eating animals I stopped wearing leather too so I had to say sayonara to ever getting Docs, well that was until I found they thoughtfully made these boots.

I also just ordered them in time to wear throughout this very British monsoon we're having right now, they've kept my feet completely dry even when walking through fairly deep puddles. The soles are brilliant and they look fantastic likewise.

Cheers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best 6 Aug 2013
By OMC
I bought these boots to wear to school, naturally they have seen A LOT of wear not only at school but also during almost every hour I have spent awake! (And maybe a few hours asleep!)

These are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn and have been right out of the box since the vegans require no breaking in.

These Doc Martens are built to last a very long time, my boots, even after 6 months to school, discos, walking through forests, along many miles of road and much more, still look as good as new!

Caring for these boots is also very easy, I polish mine with Kiwi Shoe Polish Black 50ml, and regardless of how much wear they have seen they have not developed an unpleasant smell (even without using products such as Odour eaters)

On a side note the Docs also appear to be waterproof up to the first lace.

I would recommend these boots to everyone, vegan/vegeterian or not.

Happy walking
OMC

Big fan of Dr Martens worn them since i was 12 now nearly 45. Since being vegetarian i'm also finding it hard like a couple of other reviewers to justify wearing leather still. Read more

These boots are very comfy. They are slightly more brown in colour compared to the traditional cherry red docs. However they still look good and keep my feet dry. Would recommend.
