They are smart, robust, easy to clean, have a good grip on icy ground and are above all very comfortable.
I would highly recommend these to anyone who wants the Air Wear soles without the pain and agony of breaking them in.
The color's not too bright yet it's a fun change for my winter wardrobe.

About Dr. Martens
The first pair of Dr. Martens boots rolled off the production line in Northamptonshire, England on 1st April, 1960. With it's trademark yellow stitch, grooved sole and heel-loop, it was a boot worn by postmen, policemen and everyday workers; comfortable, durable and lightweight in comparison to… Read the story and more in Amazon's Dr. Martens Store.

Product Description

Product Description

These casual slip on boots are made from Dr Martens signature leather, adorned by some functional stitching patterns. Elsewhere a trendy heel tag is evident at the top of the boot and a thick sole provides extra durability to complete the look. Elegant but tough, this boot suits the office and the building site.

Manufacturer's Description

It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two founders decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On 1 April. 1960, the first cherry-red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Girls, if you wear size 6 (39 euro), these are 39-40, NOT 39. So as I saw a comment on this here, I bought 5 and 6 sizes and it was true - my foot was sinking in size 6 and size 5 fit perfectly. I can't say that it'll happen for everyone, but I always wear size 6 (39), so if returns are free, buy both sizes. I love Martens, quality is so good, but it really annoys me that they don't do size 39 and 40 separately. Why, Martens?? Why?

Looking at the other reviews, I'm thinking "is it only me"?? Possibly the other reviews were written when the boots were new.
When I first received these, I would have given them 5 stars. They looked great and were a comfortable fit. But having worn them consistently to work (in an office) for about 7 months, they are already on the way out. The sole and heel tread has worn down considerably, and the leather has cracked in places almost completely through, despite me giving them a regular proper polishing.
A shame, as I had such high hopes. My local cobbler was not surprised. He says everyone expects modern DMs to be the same as the original British ones, but in reality the new ones are made in Thailand to a much lower standard, and actually have a different construction. Apparently the old ones would last (almost) forever, but forget it with the new ones.
2 stars, as they did look good out of the box. At the end of the day they are no worse than those bought on the high street for about the same money (£55). But my expectation was that they would give me a good few years wear, which they evidently have not.

These boots are excellent. They are smart, robust, easy to clean, have a good grip on icy ground and are above all very comfortable.

I bought a pair for work, at the start of the bad weather last year and have been wearing them ever since. I work in an office but spend a lot of time out and about, so I need footwear that is smart but practical. These are the first pair of boots I've owned since I was at school twenty years ago. A friend who is a security guard recommended DM's. He warned me that they need to be worn in, which took a few evenings.

Some days I've had them on for over 14 hours and they are comfortable from the time I put them on to taking them off at night. They look good with a suit or casual jeans. They are so easy to clean. A good polish once a week and if they get dirty in-between, a quick wipe over with a damp cloth does the trick.

The first day I wore them for work, I felt strangly self conscious, but I needn't have been, as I've had only good comments. Also two of my colleagues have bought a pair.

I didn't realise how comfortable DM boots can be. I've even treated myself to a pair of 10 hole lace up DM vintage boots, which are also excellent.

I highly recommend these boots.

I tend towards brand loyalty. I have been wearing DM's for years so have a lot of my friends. They are virtually indestructible! They still look and feel fantastic out of the box. However my last three pairs have been rubbish, developing splits within a few months of purchase. You wouldn't expect that of any shoe, let alone DM's. I look after my shoes very well. They always get a good going over with dubbin when they first arrive and are polished regularly after that. DM's have gone downhill over the last few years, a switch in manufacturing to somewhere in Asia (Thailand I heard but could be wrong) has lead to the quality of the leather being very poor. Doc Marten have presumably sacked their quality control people and gone for image and brand loyalty instead of quality. The once leather inner sole is now some perishable compound like cardboard. I counteracted this by putting in insoles. That worked, but why should you have to do this? The last three pairs developed splits very quickly (less than a year), the most recent pair, within a couple of months. The quality of DM's is very poor today. They are trading on brand loyalty to a once great name. I am happy to pay the price for a brilliant product, but for the crap they now produce, it's a waste of money. If shoes start to split after 2 or 3 months they are worthless! I have never owned such bad shoes as my current DM's. Their standard has dropped through the floor. You can buy imitations for less than £30, and why not? At £30 you probably don't care if your shoes fall apart in less than 6 months. I will be switching to another brand, any other brand! Maybe an Australian brand like Redbacks, I'll certainly never buy any more of this once proud product. Final verdict? Total crap!

I bought these boots about 15 years after my last pair of Chelsea boots kicked the bucket! On putting these boots on I felt like these were a pair of boots that I had owned for years. Even though the boots themselves are made in Thailand the quality and feel are exactly as I remember them. I would highly recommend these to anyone who wants the Air Wear soles without the pain and agony of breaking them in.
