Didn't require any breaking in as they were very good fit and comfy from the off.
For me they are perfect and just what I was looking for.
These boots are really lovely - very well made, comfortable on first wearing and waterproof so far!

About Dr. Martens
The first pair of Dr. Martens boots rolled off the production line in Northamptonshire, England on 1st April, 1960. With it's trademark yellow stitch, grooved sole and heel-loop, it was a boot worn by postmen, policemen and everyday workers; comfortable, durable and lightweight in comparison to… Read the story and more in Amazon's Dr. Martens Store.

Product Description

Product Description

Dr Martens men's 3 - eyelet ankle boot made from soft leather. Features cream stitching on the seams, Airwair loop, Dr Martens logo embossed into outer side and yellow z-welt stitch.

Manufacturer's Description

It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two founders decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On 1 April. 1960, the first cherry-red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

These chukka boots are wide in fit lightweight and very comfy, have almost lived in them since buying in October 2007 they are very good for pottering about or driving long distance in comfort within only a few days of wearing them.
Must admit they are vastly superior to the older classic types of dm boots of the 1980's/1990's and they look good with trousers or jeans as somone with wide but shallow feet these are ideal when so many types of footwear just do not fit.

I had these for a Christmas present after pining for them for several months before - and as soon as I put them on I was amazed. In fact I never took them off apart from to goto sleep - which I have never done before. They are comfy, well designed, well made and generally Brilliant.

So far I have been very pleased with these Dr MARTEN's `Jake' Chukka boots. They arrived quickly from the vendor as described and are a good price.

They are very comfortable, pretty lightweight with soles giving plenty of cushioning as per DM's usual high standards and good grip.

They also appear well made too. With regards to other customers' reviews saying how much they leak, as they are Nubuck leather I can see how they would soak up the water when wet.

However I have sprayed them with some proofing spray which I hope will help, but time will tell.

So on the basis of how they have been so far, plus buying them in full knowledge they could leak (Thanks for the warnings folks - If I'm wrong about the spray helping it's my own fault!) I am happy to give 5 stars.

I have long coveted a pair of Doc Martens, and in need of new pair of boots I decided that now was the time to get some. I particularly like these Chukka boots as they have all the features that Docs are famous for (air cushion sole, good quality leather, chemical resistant etc,) but unlike the traditional variety they don't look like skinhead boots. A nice compromise for me.

Look - The leather looks great, a matt black and a well worn look to it. Really stylish.

Fit - I am usually a size 11 with a wide fitting, and have had trouble in the past with 11s that are not wide enough, s I require a 12. No such problems here, the 11 is exceedingly roomy with a decent wide fit.

Comfort - It's not many shoes that are so comfortable I can take them out of the box and walk three miles with out carving up my heels. But these are exceptionally comfortable, and have required no breaking in at all. I walk 2-3 miles to work every morning (and the same home at night) and have had no troubles at all. Being more of a shoe style they don't provide as much support around the ankle as the traditional boot, but that's OK. They are one of the best pairs I have had in terms of comfort.

Durability - I work in a chemistry lab and have troubles with shoes essentially just dissolving with the chemicals around the place. No such trouble with these babies, they seem exceedingly durable.

In all honesty I cannot find a criticism for these shoes. For me they are perfect and just what I was looking for. 5 stars.

I checked that the boots were in stock. I ordered late one night and they arrived within 36 hours. The boots are really well-constructed and very comfortable.
Highly recommended.

Have the boots - they are great!

However this is not why I write this review - I read some of the reviews and noted people complain they are not water repellant.

Well obviously these boots are raw untreated leather (the feel and color) this obviously looks great but has some disadvatages when it comes to water.

I suggest using impregnation spray - multiple times, and sprayed at some distance, make sure the boot does not get "wet spots" from the spray, this will change to boot color.

2 times with 12 hours apart will dramatically change your boots resistance to water - the downside is your boot will "breathe less" you might experience your feet feel more sweaty... depends on how much you sweat on your obviously.

The stitchings might need more attention - AFTER you spray your shoes you can use leather grease on the stichings to make the shoes "completely" water proof (well almost) - but be carefull this can make spots on your nice looking boots - and so can the spray... so dont overdo it.

Mine are excellent - and I live in Denmark (lots of rain).

Hope this is usefull - enjoy these great boots!
