I have used these shoes in connection with my work (dog walker) for the last six months from new. Last week, when checking the sole of one of them, I noticed a small tear in the sole. That's effectively the death knell for the pair as water will now start to get in to the interior of the faulty shoe and walking around with one good shoe is somewhat impractical.
When you buy a pair of DMs with an RRP of around £90, I don't think it unreasonable to expect you get at least a year's wear out of them without problem. I got six months!
Update (May 2014):-
Further to my initial review, Amazon kindly and efficiently replaced the original faulty pair of these shoes with a brand new pair.
Within six months of use, one of the replacement shoes developed exactly the same problem as the shoe from the first pair. A split appeared in the sole, which then developed into a small hole, letting water inside the shoe, rendering it useless.
Each pair of these shoes has lasted around six months before becoming unfit for purpose. Shame on the manufacturer.
Thankfully, Amazon again came to my assistance, refunding my original purchase price after I returned the second pair to them. Also, superb service by their returns courier DPD.
I did contact Dr. Martens via their official website when the first pair of shoes became faulty. Their response was very much couldn't care less, with a promised contact to my initial email never returned. Poor customer service and in my experience, poor shoes. Pity, as the company used to make real workhorselike pairs of shoes and boots. Never, ever, will I buy their products again.
