Product Description

Product Description

After her critically acclaimed album "Fall For Beauty" and on the heels of the third release in her own successful accoustic "Black Flowers" series Lynn here presents eleven new songs of love and life, darkness and light.. a celebration of our fragile, flawed and beautiful world. Hard to imagine so for those who know any previous work from this Canadian songstress, but produced by long time musical companion and guitarist Ian LeFeuvre this may well be her most personal work ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deeply Satisfying 3 July 2013
By Angel Delta TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Lynn Miles shares with Lucinda Williams an aching beauty to her voice that conveys to perfection the brooding melancholia of the intensely personal songs that they both write. There is such a musical depth and density to these eleven songs dealing with the fragility of existence that it is surprising that the album is the work of just two people, Lynn, and her long time collaborator, Ian Lefeuve.

Ian plays pedal steel and electric guitar, zither, mandolin, drums, bass, percussion, banjo, keyboards and even finds time to produce and engineer the album and provide harmony vocals! Lynn plays acoustic and electric guitar, piano and pump organ.

Lefeuve's production and mixing bring a sophisticated quality to these beautifully crafted songs that burst with melody and poetry. With titles such as "Moth", "Sad", "How To Be Alone" and "Can't Stop My Heart From Breaking" the album eloquently explores the frailty of the human condition and, in "Broken Hearted" she describes that as being "the only town I've lived in lately".

This is a deeply satisfying album on many levels and Lynn Miles is a talent that deserves greater recognition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Consistently underestimated 25 Aug 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Lynn Miles is an extraordinary singer and songwriter who produces top ten hits by the barrel that never get anywhere in any charts! Every song on this collection is beautifully conceived, and equally magnificently produced by Ian Lefeuvre.

4.0 out of 5 stars Latest album from Toronto-based singer-songwriter has more of a country sound than prior ones. Still fine with one "special" trk 9 July 2013
By Steven I. Ramm - Published on Amazon.com
Singer/songwriter Lynn Miles has been big (actually HUGE) in Canada with seven or eight albums under her belt and a JUNO (their Grammy) Award. But she was new to me here in the US until 2011 when I got her "Fall From Beauty" CD. When this CD arrived, I popped it in my player and, from the first track - "Something Beautiful" - I found myself tapping my foot and dancing around the room. The rest of the album didn't let me down either and I've been a huge fan since then.

This new album is a fine one too, just a bit different in style. Two of the songs (the opener "More" and "Can't Stop My Heart From Breaking") have Miles singing with a countrified yodel. At least for me, they sounded too similar in style. "My Road", an autobiographical tale was the winner track for me this time, with its great chorus. ""Party Too Long" is another autobiographical song.

There are 11 songs on the album, all penned by Miles. Her producer, Ian Lefeuvre, not only produced the disc but also plays an amazing range of instruments on it. (Electric and acoustic guitars, keyboards, banjo, percussion, mandolin, zither and more!). Miles herself plays both kinds of guitars as well as piano, pump organ and percussion. These two provide all the music.

I'm glad I found Miles and will continue to follow her career. She definitely has the talent and a great partner in Lefeuvre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Impressive Album from Ms. Miles 6 July 2013
By E. C Goodstein - Published on Amazon.com
Another collection of heartfelt and beautiful songs by Miles. This one is maybe skewed just as much
towards country as folk than some other ones, but loses nothing for that. Some here play more with internal rhymes than previous
albums-- with too shades of humor (or irony at least) akin to Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, as on opener 'More' and some others. These are distinctive too, with clever wordplay, and her characteristic beautiful emphasis on the hope and elusiveness of love and connection, disappointment and yearning. Some fine, if at times wry, perspective on her career on 'My Road,' and reluctantly getting older on 'Party Too Long,' which add some additional wrinkles. And her voice is gorgeous here: a bit like the 'countrier' side of Joan Baez, but if anything even more assured. I also like how she and frequent recent musical collaborator Ian Lefeuvre vary the arrangements: at times sparse, at others sounding like a full band, and playing several instruments between them. This is one of Myles's finest albums I think, ranking already for me with 'Slightly Haunted' and 'Love Sweet Love.' All her work is great really, including the 'unplugged' Black Flowers volumes. This stands alone too as one of my favorite recent country/folk albums.
