Synopsis

FRASIER's Kelsey Grammer stars as inept Navy Lieutenant Tom Dodge, in this nautical slapstick comedy. He has been given one last chance to clean up his poor record but thanks to his nemesis, Admiral Graham (Bruce Dern), he is assigned the leadership of The Stingray, a rusty, creaky wreck of a submarine, that will play the role of the enemy in a series of practice war games. Dodge's unenviable task is made worse when he meets his crew, an eccentric, incompetent bunch that includes a flatulent cook and an accident-prone electrician. Also, as an experiment in sexual integration, a woman has come onboard to join these misfits. Dodge must find a way to shape up this motley crew, if he's ever going to prove his worth to Graham, the Navy--and himself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kelsey Grammer a.k.a. Fraiser Crane gives all he's got!, 6 May 2003
This classic comedy that excells all others see's John Dodge, Navy Officer desperately seeking Command of his own submarine. In their wisdom, navy officials give it to him, but it's not the kind of submarine he expected. Instead of an up to date Nuclear Fighting machine, he is given a 1956 re-commissioned Diesel Sub with a dimwitted crew and given a War game to play if he is to succeed in getting his dream boat...Will he play the game? This classic comedy cannot be equaled and is a must buy for anyone who simply enjoys a good laugh!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, 1 Nov 2000

I thought this film was pure genius - it kept me laughing all the way through! Kelsey Grammer is superb as Tom Dodge, and it is good to see him in a role other than in 'Frasier' - a must-see movie!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb throughout-great entertainment, 19 April 2004
By A Customer
When Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) takes over as captain of his 'new' rustbucket submarine with a crew of assorted navy dropouts, he is determined to prove his value to the navy and get a proper command. The fun really begins when the war games are fixed by old adversary Admiral Graham (Bruce Dern) for him to lose spectacularly and the crew are soon close to mutiny. Each member of the crew has a unique flaw in their character which comes out in this fun-packed adventure. Don't miss a single line of this fast-paced and gripping action yarn. Very collectable. I've watched it dozens of times and keep finding new jokes I missed before... because I was laughing at the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars down periscope
The submarine with the wacky crew has been done before but this is a very funny film with a twist to the theme. If you like comedy and old submarine films, you will enjoy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun. Good story.
For some reason, whenever this film is shown on TV it's given a poor review. In fact, it's a tremendous little film and is well worth watching again and again. Read more
