Dr Feelgood blazed a trail for punk to follow with a uncompromising stage act that picked up where early-1960s Stones left off.
They topped the album chart with the live 'Stupidity' in 1976. And though the faces have changed, that self-same band is still out there delivering their patented high-octane, in-your-face brand of Canvey Island R&B, leavened with an ironic wit and humour.
Down by the Jetty, written with the co-operation of the band members past and present and illustrated from the Feelgood archives, tells the story of an unique band from an unique enviroment, Canvey Island.
From the Author
Whenever undertaking a project such as writing a book or making a documentary film, one often sets about it with a feeling of apprehension.
For to get to the heart of the matter an intensive period of research must first be undertaken. Usually this process reveals things that you had not anticipated or even imagined. Dark stuff that shatters a naive first impression. I can only say that in researching and writing this book about Dr Feelgood the opposite was to prove to be true.
