An excellent, well written account of the life of a Land Girl told with humour and sensitivity. The year round life of the 1940's farm is evoked and enhanced by her descriptions of the countryside and it's wildlife - recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting 6 Feb. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A very good insight to the duties of women doing the war. It was written very well and made you understand just how hard they had it at that terrible time. The story kept you hooked and what they coped with without all this wonderful machinery we have today, and they seem to make the most of everything simple thing and just get on with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely memories 25 Oct. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It is a lovely book to read for anyone, you don't need to be connected with farming. I can remember my dad telling me about some of the jobs he had to do as a child helping out on a local farm for pocket money and it was interesting to read all jobs were the same on every farm. I can well believe how cold and hard the described winter jobs were and then you had the contrast to summer , just as hard but nature made it seem more pleasant as the writer told of all the birds, insects and other creatures that she saw. There were also all the funny little things that went wrong or haywire to bring a smile to your face aswell, a real hind sight into a land girls time on a farm. There are quite a few spelling mistakes which is a shame but you can still understand what is being written

3.0 out of 5 stars land army girl 13 Jun. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was ok, it didn't keep me riveted though. It was a good overall memory or account of a hard time working the land during the war. It was a kind of innocent time despite all that was going on at the time and whilst you felt empathy for the girl it didn't come across as a particularly hard time, although other accounts of that time are portrayed differently. Enjoyed it but wouldn't recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars what a disappointment 14 Dec. 2012

This should have been such an interesting and lively subject, but it was neither. It was also badly edited which made for an irritating read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Proofreading 6 Feb. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed the content of this book (it was not at all well written) but found it very difficult to read as it appeared to have had no proof reading and, at times, this made it very difficult to understand. I think this should be addressed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Down on the farm 4 July 2013

I think this is a great book for anyone who likes to read other people's diary's. If you are looking for a story then this is not the book for you. Seems like the story being told was informative but too many long gaps.
