Every now and again I succumb to guilty pleasure and read an M&B. Usually they drive me potty with the wimpy female lead and paint by numbers alpha male BUT this book does have a great heroine in Polly Prince who actually has brains, ability, sassy dialogue, a sense of humour and can stand up to the hero in a way that makes you laugh because its cleverly done. So many reviews talk about feisty heroines but that just means stubbornly not giving in to the predictable male demands to become their mistress or be the beneficiary of generous gifts because all the heroines have strong principles, save when it comes to sleeping with the strong male (and usually getting pregnant) or even worse marrying them without any real basis for believing the relationship will last. Sorry off on a rant here. Back to Doukakis' Apprentice, Polly despite being the usual M&B virgin for no particularly good reason (other than she works too hard to have a life and is scarred by father's serial marriages) is otherwise utterly fab, and the hero is justifiably impressed and attracted once he has got over her hot pink tights and his belief that she is a worthless sponger. I just wish there were more like this one.

Sarah Morgan penned a book that will go down as one of the best M&B books of all time. For anyone who has ever complained about the spineless, no back bone, doormat-like, unassertive, weak, pathetic and irritating heroine, who make your blood curdle and you want to shake them for not standing up for themselves in some if not most M &B; here is your chance to feel proud and redeemed by Polly Prince the heroine in this book. For she is fearless, inventive, soft hearted, self reliant, earth-wise and could take on all comers.
Polly Prince is one in a million; she learnt to look after herself when her mother walked out on her Dad at a tender age of two. She didn't exactly change the nappy but she practically raised herself, because her father left her to fend for herself and to solve her problems herself. At the age of 14 she orchestrated her expulsion from a boarding school. You will be wondering why, but the reason was complex and only a creative and an inventive mind could have come up with that solution. Since leaving school she has worked as an executive assistant to her father in his unorthodox advertising company, her dreams of a University education in tatters because her father treated the company as a hobby and Polly cared too much about the staff and what happens to them.

When her father disappeared with her School friend Arianna Doukakis, the sister to the Greek Billionaire Damon Doukakis, apart from the embarrassment his actions caused her, it was left to Polly to pick up the pieces. Damon Doukakis had Polly pegged as a `blonde air -head, good for nothing, never done any honest work in her life, spoilt brat 'who has been sponging off her father's company. He has never forgotten or forgiven her part in the expulsion of his sister from boarding school ten years ago aged 14. In a hostile takeover, Damon bought the unorthodox Prince outfit to flush out Mr. Prince, he did not envisage that Mr. Prince had never been there for Polly and would not come running if Polly was in trouble or the fact that he had to deal with a Polly Prince he had never really known. When an irresistible force meets an immovable object what do you think will happen?

This is one of the best books by SM on a lot of levels. She portrayed two very strong willed and well matched characters, but also a very smart, strong and kind heroine with an incredible people's skill, creativity and consideration for others. Packed with high tension, romance, chivalry and the creative genius of Polly, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat till you get to the end. The Hero is also like-able as re redeems himself nicely. Well done Sarah Morgan for such a beautifully crafted story. Encore!

Excellent! 30 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Sarah Morgan is one of my favourite M&B writers, and she absolutely came up trumps with the Doukakis' Apprentice.
I agree with other reviewers about the wimpy nature of some of these M&B heroines (aka "doormats").Polly, on the otherhand is clever, hardworking, and worth her weight
in gold, despite practically bringing herself up. Damon had a terrible opinion of her initially (and you really can't blame him as he had no evidence to the contrary), but I like a man who can admit that he was wrong. The chemistry between these two was sizzling! This is what a well-written M&B should be.
My biggest gripe was that the book finished far too quickly as I gobbled it up!

Too modern for me
I didn't like how happy the heroine and the hero were to engage in casual sex. I personally prefer the more traditional Mills and Boon characters.
