Doug Johnstone is a writer, journalist and musician based in Edinburgh. His most recent novel, Hit & Run, was published by Faber and Faber in March 2012 and was an Amazon #1 bestseller. His previous novels are Smokeheads (2011), The Ossians (2008) and Tombstoning (2006). His work has received praise from the likes of Irvine Welsh and Ian Rankin.
Doug was Writer in Residence at the University of Strathclyde 2010-2012. He's had short stories published in various collections and magazines, and since 1999 has worked as a freelance arts journalist, currently writing for The Independent on Sunday, Scotland on Sunday, The Scotsman, The Herald and The Big Issue magazine amongst others.
Doug is also a singer, musician and songwriter in several bands, including Northern Alliance, part of the Fence Collective. Northern Alliance have released four albums to critical acclaim, as well as recording an album as a fictional band called The Ossians. Doug released his debut solo EP, Keep it Afloat, in 2011.
