Product Description

Not all stand-up comedy is spot-cleaned and pre-packaged for the masses. Like the legends who were born out of smoky, booze-soaked nightclubs of decades past, Doug Stanhope spews his own brand of moral outrage in an unmatched style that borders on self-destruction. Nothing is sacred, no subject off-limits and most importantly nothing is contrived.

From critically acclaimed appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to regular appearances on The Howard Stern Show, Stanhope always shows an intelligence and brutal honesty in his comedy, no mater how viciously graphic or unsettling the material may be.

Stanhope is as smart at making his audiences laugh as he is at making them flinch --Daily Record, Glasgow

5.0 out of 5 stars A cure for depression ? 17 Mar 2011
Verified Purchase
Whilst watching several comedians on YouTube I happened upon Doug Stanhope - whom I had never heard of before. He was 'awesome' ! I mean the things he said really resonated with the humdrum, gruesome, suicidal, monotonous, depressing, abominable existence of my life. This is the antidote to feeling you don't 'fit in'. If all else fails watch, watch it anyway - you'll feel better. Society has crumbled and fallen into a pit of non-thinking robots and it's wrong. I refuse to kowtow to 'the rules' and get drawn into a death-march to hell. Don't depress my depression with your ever increasing prescriptions for eternal boredom.

Here, Stanhope shows us that thinking is good, it's creative and in the deep dark corners of your mind it's where the imagination lies. If you want to stand out then stand up for yourself. Recently I was told to stop thinking and just 'do it', now that is dumb ! Stanhope may not be the answer to everyones ills and some may question his beliefs but I like him, he's sharp and witty and has been there and done it. He rages against the mediocre, boring, fashionable comedians out there and I for one love that.

. . . . . . . . behind Stewart Lee.

Doug Stanhope is scathing, irreverent and incredible. If you like your comedy serrated, impassioned and intelligent Stanhope is an absolute must. His material is extremely challenging and deftly controversial without ever feeling contrived.

'No Refunds' is THE perfect antidote to the teeth grinding asinine twaddle that floods our TVs on a nightly basis.

Stanhope is a bastion of sheer wit and plain speaking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly funny & brutally straight-talking 22 May 2011
By Eva
We know about Doug Stanhope from Charlie Brooker's Newswipe. We appreciated his humour instantly, as he is refreshingly straight-talking and brutally honest. But his performance is not for the faint-hearted! ...for all the others: enjoy!
