With uplifting tunes and inspirational playing, Scottish multi-instrumental duo Mairearad and Anna's second album showcases their formidable technical prowess and playful delivery at its very best. Mairearad Green and Anna Massie's 'Doubling' showcases the collective fruits of duo partnership, from two of Scotland's most revered multi-instrumentalists, at the highest level. This second album from the award-winning musicians displays formidable technical skill, alongside their trademark playful delivery and out-and-out joy of making music together. 'Doubling' picks up where their eponymously titled 2009 debut left off. Mairearad and Anna was recorded live, just the two musicians the live double act - whilst 'Doubling' features many layered tracks, though still just from the two musicians, building a more complex sound. This album also introduces the Highland bagpipes to the duo, and, with them, the record's title - a doubling is a bagpipe ornament, where two sounds appear on one note. At the heart of 'Doubling' remains the live duo sets, intricately arranged, and executed with symbiotic sympathy. Featuring Mairearad on accordion, pipes and keyboard, and Anna on guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, tenor guitar and make-shift percussion, Doubling not only demonstrates the pair's seemingly infinite abilities as musicians, but also as producers and composers. Musical collaboration at its very best.
