The great things about this series for me are Cal's sarcastic personality and the different supernatural world Thurman has crafted so well. I like that Niko and Cal are each other's only family and that they are close and I enjoy the interactions with Robin and Promise.

This book is largely about how close Niko and Cal are. There's a nice little story from their past in the book which Cal thinks shows how much Auphe has always been a part of him but it really just shows how much he loves and is willing to do for his brother. This seemed to be the main message of this book, I thought.

There's an surprising new bad guy in Grimm, but I found other parts of this book pretty predictable. I was disappointed in the throw away mention of a character from the first books but there's always the chance more will be made of this in the next book. Promise doesn't feature much in this one and I did feel like it was lacking a little something without her.

Another excellent book by Rob Thurman, I'm so glad I picked up her first book "Night Life" by chance and decided to give it a try. Love the characters. Love the humor. Love this series. And now I'm waiting patiently to find out what is install for the cynical Cal and company in the next novel.

Really there's three characters here - Cal, Niko, and Caliban. It's written so well that Caliban turns into Cal and you're barely aware until all hell breaks loose.

This series shows no sign of jumping the shark. It just gets better.

One of the thiings I love about Rob Thurman's Cal and Niko series, is the growth in the characters. There are plenty of slam bang gritty novels out there, but although there is enough action to satisfy, there is also growth, change, and the adjustment to that change that keeps the story and the characters always new. And there is a love story that maybe only someone who has a sibling they love without reservation can comprehend. Thurman tests the relationship constantly, just as if the characters were real. And damned if I don't think they are as real as good fiction gets. Just get the series and start to read. By the time you get to this latest installment, you will be well and throughly hooked. Enjoy and look forward to more great storytelling from Rob Thurman.

And then pick up the Chimera/Basilisk books for more great storytelling. Thurman rarely takes a false step. Carry on, Rob. I'm about to dive into the Trickster novels, Trick of the Light and The Grimrose Path. I'll be looking for more books.....
