Is there anyone better to tell it like it is than one’s kid? In January 2008, when Uncle Kracker began to write the songs that appear on his new album Happy Hour, it was his eight year-old daughter who suggested that he try writing something a little less downbeat than usual. “She said to me, ‘I can't really dance to any of your songs,’” the father of three ... 3.0 out of 5 stars Chilling with the devil 31 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Depending on whether or not you've heard Kid Rock's "Devil Without a Cause" you'll either think this is great or completely unoriginal. In its own right this isn't a bad album, it's actually pretty good. It's just that it sounds like watered down Kid Rock, whose "Devil..." album is superior. The similarity makes the music sound considerably less fresh.
Both albums share the same rock/hip-hop crossover style, although Kid Rock is a little heavier. Don't expect ten clones of "Follow Me" though. Think of that single as Uncle Kracker's "Cowboy" (the most commercial track on the Kid Rock album); if you buy this album expecting bland American college rock you'll be very disappointed.
Where Uncle Kracker differs from Kid Rock is the slight country twang that a lot of the tracks have - particularly evident at the start of "Heaven". He's not Kenny Rogers but he's as much of a cowboy as he is a homeboy.
If you like "Follow Me" for its mellow melodic sound, it's worth giving the album a few listens with an open mind, you might grow to like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD is a true Masterpiece 5 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This CD was produced By Kid Rock. Uncle Kracker (Matt Shafer) is a member of Kid Rock's "Twisted Brown Trucker Band", and this is his debut album and it's amazing. From start to finish this album is full of quality well written lyrics. My personal favorites are "Heaven", "Better Days", "What Chu' Lookin' At", and "Whiskey & Water". But don't get me wrong every single track on this album is really good. Uncle Kracker learnt from the best through Kid Rock. Kracker himself co-wrote most of the "Devil Without A Cause" album. So if you like Kid Rock, then you'll love Uncle Kracker. This CD is mind blowing from start to finish. Lets hope there's more to come from Uncle Kracker and Kid Rock in the future.

you can definetley hear Kid Rocks influenence on this album, but don't let that worry you if you are not a fan of his because this album is very soul orientated with a rock beat through it. if u can imagine that then buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best album I've heard in a while 31 Dec 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I first saw Uncle Kracker on an awards ceromony and I have been hooked ever since. This CD has a country twist to it although there is a rock beat there too. There are no offensive words in this version but unlike some CD's you can't tell where the blanked out one's are; there are no breaks. The lyrics are deep and well thought out and make the songs really easy to listen to. People who compare this CD to Kid Rock's would have some right in doing so but it is a tonned down, slower version of Kid Rock should he be compared. I would really recommend this album and I am really suprised more people haven't heard of Uncle Kracker-he's going to be big!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet album thats heavier than thew chart stuff! 11 May 2005
Format:Audio CD
this album is spot on as it contains the chart stuff he was known for (and everyone knows these songs even if they don't recognise the title) but the rest of the album is a little more hardcore rap metal that suits my style if not all which is why I gave it the 5 star !!!! and everyone can relate to if heaven aint like detroit as everyone has somewhere they wish heaven would be like and mines Huntington Beach CA! make the effort to visit its the best place in the world!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a Kracker 3 Sep 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This is best album I've heard in a long, long time. It's simply brilliant. It has a slightly more country feel than I thought but it still rocks, and is definitley the best album of the year. If he isnt a major success something is very wrong. Every single track is great, except for Aces & 8's, which is just strange. My personal favourites are Better Days, What Chu Lookin' At and Heaven. But the best track is Heaven, it belnds country, rock, hiphop and rap perfectly. In short, buy it
