bought this book on a bit of whim and im very glad i did!!! I could not put it down. The authors portrayal of the characters was excellent and i found myself liking some of the characters i wasnt initially too keen on. The ending was very good and i thoroughly enjoyed this read to cheer me up on a grisly wet weekend!!

This was the first book I have read by Patricia and found it excellent. I was bored and started reading it and then couldn't put it down. I have found my new addiction!!! The characters are believable and there is a real empathy for why people behave in the way they do - well researched!!

After reading the reviews on amazon, i was disapointed when i recieved this book as a present. But I was wrong to assume i wouldnt like it because of other peoples opinions. I couldnt put it down. Its not the best book ive ever read, but its enjoyable, and it kept me interested till the last page.

I bought this book last week. I was shocked because a thought I had only been reading for a short while, but before I new it I had read several chapters. The book is so easy to read and gets you emotional involved with each and every character. Was totally impressed with the ending and now I can't wait to read another one of her books. My next choice is Francesa's Party.
I love all of Patrica Scanlan's books, but this is one of the best so far !!!!

not great - I love Patricia Scanlan's book, but this was a disappointment. There just seemed to be an air of publishing the book for the sake of time.
Don't get me wrong, I finished it in 1.5 days, but there wasn't the same substance as her earlier books. I hoped it would improve towards the end, but it doesn't...it just rambles on.
A good read, but I didn't get the same enjoyment as I did from her other books.
Definitely not worth the money for the hardback edition, but would definitely add the paperback to my collection.

In places I really enjoyed this story about childhood friends Jessica and Carol. But overwhelmingly I wanted to punch both Carol for being so horrible and Jessica for being such a wimp. Both engaged to be married, Carol insists on a douible wedding as she's so scared her fiance is going to do a runner - and doormat Jessica gives in and agrees... Interspersed with some funny moments and scenes, it is a rather predictable tale of bickering family members and dodgy wedding guests and friendships pushed to the limit. The will they/wont they get hitched question does keep you guessing though, and that alone kept me reading to the end....

ok so this book is just frothy like read stuff... found a copy in reception on holiday and had read it within about 4-5 hours. the book itself could have been worse, but i was REALLY annoyed by the nonstop use of the word 'humour'.

I must say, I'm a bit surprised by some of the reviews here! I love Patricia Scanlan, although, yes, she does have her limitations. Sometimes her plots aren't that well-thought through and seem to be going nowhere (I find Francesca's Party quite frustrating in that respect), and she does seem to recycle ideas a lot. I've lost count of how many times in different books her characters go on holiday abroad, and things go wrong...
But still, I adore her books because there's a real warmth to them. I can only describe it as the very best fiction to curl up with on a comfy sofa when the rain's lashing down outside, a cup of tea (or glass of wine?) at your side. Her best book, in my opinion, is Promises, Promises, but I found a lot to enjoy in Double Wedding. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I thought the characters were well-drawn, compelling and believable. I found it realistic that Jessica would give in to Carol so much, because of feeling guilty about her own happy life, and I thought Carol's prickly personality was explained very well by Scanlan's descriptions of her childhood with an alcoholic mother.
All in all, not one of Scanlan's best books, but still definitely worth a read if you enjoy her stuff.
