Product Description

The follow up to bluesman Otis Taylor's 2003 Telarc debut
'Truth is Not Fiction', 'Double V' comprises a dozen songs written,
arranged and produced by himself. Demonstrating a deep connection to his
heritage, 'Double V' continues Taylor's very direct and personal commentary
on the plight of African-Americans.

A highly regarded blues artist Otis Taylor, nominated for 4 WC Handy Awards
and 'Truth Is Not Fiction' was in the Top 10 Album's of 2003 for both the
New York Times and Washington Post. On 'Double V' he continues his
experiments with an unusual sound, featuring his daughter Cassie on bass
and on vocals plus four cellos and trumpet on various tracks. This unique
approach to the blues earned Taylor the description as "one of the genre's
most original practitioners in years."

Otis Taylor - (vocals, guitar, banjo, electric banjo, electric mandolin,

with: Cassie Taylor - (vocals, bass), Ben Sollee - (cello), Shaun Diaz -
(cello), Lara Turner - (cello), Marcello Sanches - (cello), Ron Miles -

5.0 out of 5 stars What a sound! 11 July 2004
By A Customer - Published on
Format:Audio CD
A friend took me to see Otis Taylor in concert, and I ran right down to pick up this album. This is some powerful stuff and not what I was expecting at all. The "blues" label is misleading; sure, it starts with the blues, but there is a whole lot else in there. Even when the songs are at their darkest (Plastic Spoon), something about the music doesn't let the album get grim. One thing that was obvious on stage which might help explain the album - Otis is the artist, but don't underestimate daughter Cassie's inspiration.

3.0 out of 5 stars Review of Otis Taylor's CD, "V" 24 April 2013

Otis Taylor has displayed greater talent in White African and most especially, his CD Contraband, Downbeat Magazine's blues album of this past year, 2012. However, the final cut is a vocal solo by Otis' daughter Cassie. Listening to that one cut made the CD worthy of recognizing the future of a great artist, Cassie Taylor.
5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 24 Feb 2012
By M. Northuis - Published on
Format:Audio CD
I rarely listen to the blues anymore, like Bebop it has become a fairly
stale genre, mostly white guys that don't know when to take their foot
off the gas. But every once in a while someone like Otis Taylor puts out
an album that is blues based that is still the real deal. I think of
Mr. Taylor as the musical descendant of Odetta as much as he is of
John Lee Hooker-Folk Based Trance Music might be a good title for what
he does, anyway I wrote this review just to balance out the idiot's
one star review that never even listened to this great album before
writing his grievance.
