I first read this book when I was a child, and the memory of it has stuck with me through all these years. I would recommend it to anyone who has children, or even just as a good read! I came on to amazon with the purpose of locating this book and I was surprised to find so many copies of it still readily available. Definitely worth the time it takes to flick past the first page - you will be hooked so make sure you haven't left the cooker on!

5.0 out of 5 stars Took a long time to track down... 3 May 2010

I loved this book when I read it as a child, but although element of it stayed with me (twins, an old doll, the name Hester, timeslip), I wasn't able to identify it until a few years ago. This book is set in Canada (Toronto, I think) and had been published under two different names: Double Spell and Twin Spell. It stood up to a reread and I'd recommend it, especially if you like timeslip books.

5.0 out of 5 stars spellbinding book that you can't put down 26 Oct 1998

I read this book as a child and absolutely loved it. I have been looking for it for YEARS to pass on to my children but have been unsuccessful. It was scary, strange, mysterious, sad and ultimately, hopeful.
5.0 out of 5 stars A book no childhood should go without 24 Sep 2002

This is one of those children books that you wont mind reading to you kids. Set in Toronto in an earlier part of the 20th Century, it follows the adventures of a set of twins trying to unwind the mysteries that surround their new house. The story is rich and imaginative and flashbacks create a sense mystery.
Originally published "Twin Spell" this book is one of my all time childhood favourites. Don't let you child be without.
5.0 out of 5 stars Childhood book that still haunts! 30 Oct 2011

Loved this book as a child. I wonder why it was re-published under a new name. I'm so glad I can now give a copy to my daughter. This book was magical, strange, had twin sisters in it - what could be better?
