4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best live albums 26 Oct 2003
By David J. Kelly VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
I had "Caught in the Act" on vinyl in the early eighties. It is one of the best live albums ever recorded. It opens was the absolutely rivetting cover of Dylan's "Watching the River Flow" and progresses through a set of superb Rythym and Blues and Rock and Roll tracks with my favourites being"he gave His Life to Rock and Roll", "Speed Kills" and "Rollin'". The band are excellent and Gibbons' raspy voice is very distinctive and is perfect for the songs he sings. This album is a pleasure from start to finish. As soon as I heard about this release I had to get a copy.
"On the Loose" is a later live album but I bought this CD for "Caught in the Act". If you like classic rock you will certainly enjoy "Caught in the Act".

5.0 out of 5 stars Among all time best live albums 2 Sep 2011
By Doyle
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I owned 'Caught in the Act' on vinyl years ago and over 30 years later, the sound is still as fresh as ever. The SGB were an amazingly talented band and it is a shame that they didn't go on to greater things. Their raw R&B sound was in the true spirit of new wave music at the time but for some reason they got swept away in the musical tide of the time. Guitarists Bob Wilson and Dave Carroll blaze their way through a dozen righteous rockers and Blues classics, Drummer Bob Lamb and ex-Move Bassist, Trevor Burton form the tightest rhythm section you'll see this side of AC/DC! Out front is of course the irrepressible Mr G. himself who struts, hollers, croons and sings his ass off on 7 originals (he's a pretty good songwriter as well) and some strategic covers including Dylan's 'Watching the RIVER Flow' chuck Berry's Tulane and other lesser well known songs like 'Shopping for Clothes' which Gibbons sprays with his own personality and makes them his own. This is hot stuff indeed, and is up there with great Live albums of the Caliber of Skynyrd's 'One More for the Road' and Little Feat's 'Waiting for Columbus. There is also a decent enough live offering form more recently, but 'Caught in the Act' is the main Attraction. It's definitely worth buying, this set will definitely not disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Check that package out........ see what it contains... 27 Feb 2008

When I was 16 I went to a college event which featured a live band.

I had no idea that night would be a definitive event which i can still remember clearly 34 years later.

The Steve Gibbons Band simply blew me away. From the opening soaring slide guitars on "watching the river flow" all the way through the various comic and clever "story" numbers the performance of Steve and his great musicians stays with me to this day.

This guy is one of the greatest rock front-men I've ever seen.... and that includes Jagger , Stewart and all the rest. How he didn't become as big i'll never know.

He's a Birmingham gypsy look-alike that somehow metamorphosed into a brilliant southern US rock and roll genius. Incredible. Check him out......you won't be sorry.

Fantastic Albums, I like 'On The Loose' better, but both are very good, I can recommend both these albums to anyone who has never heard of Steve Gibbons, he goes back to the 70.s
5.0 out of 5 stars Double live -Steve Gibbons Band 15 Jun 2004

As it states on the sleeve of the vinyl version of the 2 cds, this is the first & only British band to fool the critics into believing they were a Southern Rock band from the USA.
Very much in the style of Redneck Gilfriend, Lynyrd Skynyrd,Molly Hatchett, Allmand Bros etc. Excellent CD's. I wish someone would release the live footage of the band in Germany (late 1970's-early 1980's.
Absolutely a joy to own, a joy to play and a joy to listern too.
Go forth and buy it, you will not be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars DOUBLE THE FUN....LIVE...! 27 Jan 2009
By A. Edward Harvey - Published on Amazon.com

WELL, HERE'S ANOTHER SMASH FROM RGF - A RE-RELEASE OF 2 LIVE STEVE GIBBONS DISCS IN ONE PACKAGE. "CAUGHT IN THE ACT" IS FROM THE '70'S & IS A RARE SET INDEED, COMPLETE WITH BONUS TRACKS. FROM DYLAN TO BERRY TO JERRY REED, IT JUST ROMPS ACROSS THE MUSICAL UNIVERSE & IS GUARANTEED TO "LIGHT UP YOUR FACE." "ON THE LOOSE" IS A LIVE SET FROM THE '80'S AND REALLY ROCKS OUT, TOO. I BELIEVE THESE LIVE EFFORTS ARE SEPARATED IN TIME BY ABOUT 10 YEARS, BUT THEY GO TOGETHER NICELY. AND AFTER ALL, EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE SOME "CHUCK" IN THEIR CAR...! ONE BONUS TRACK STANDS OUT FOR ME - "NEW YORK." GOT NO IDEA WHERE THIS ONE CAME FROM, BUT I'M SURE FRANK SINATRA NEVER DID THIS SONG. ANYWAY, IF YOU'VE EVER BEEN THERE, OR IF YOU'RE FROM THERE, LISTEN TO IT VERY LOUDLY. STEVE'S WRITTEN SOME LYRICS NEW YORKERS EVERYWHERE SHOULD BE PROUD OF, AND THE BAND JUST SLAMS IT DOWN TIGHT. WHAT A GREAT WAY TO END A 2-DISC SET...! THIS ONE IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN 5 STARS, AND THAT RGF BUNCH OVER IN ENGLAND SURELY DESERVE A BIG OLE PAT ON THE BACK FOR THE GREAT JOB THEY'RE DOING IN MAKING SURE THE "..MUSIC PLAYS ON." STEVE GIBBONS BAND & RGF RECORDS ARE ROCKING THE WORLD VERY NICELY...!
