Product Description

Product Description

Overnight, in 2007, Kerry Stott went from being a writer, student nurse, mother and wife to being a cancer patient. Kerry believes that there is more to life than a diagnosis; she has an observant eye and the knack for teasing out the absurdities in the human behaviour she sees around her. Some people survive cancer through gritted teeth but Kerry did it in her own style which is quirky, unique and with a slightly warped sense of humour. She expertly blends humour into her observations which enable the reader to examine, without fear, the very serious subject of breast cancer. There is more laughter than tears in this humorous and compelling account of one woman’s adventures with cancer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strangely Uplifting 8 July 2011
Format:Paperback
This book tackles a very difficult subject pertinent to so many people who have suffered from breast cancer like myself. This book is a must read book for those wanting to make sense of the whole experience whether it is for themselves or for a close family member. The writer has an easy reading style with a lightness of touch whilst at the same time showing a depth and range of understanding as to the emotional, practical and treatment difficulties that cancer patients can encounter. It is not a medical textbook going into different treatment options but more how the writer got through her very difficult experiences. For this reason the book is also relevant to people suffering from other types of cancer. After reading this book I felt I was better informed about the impact of breast cancer but also uplifted by the humour in the writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warm heart and tickled ribs 9 Dec 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
My mother was just diagnosed with breast cancer, she's in remission. My friend has just been diagnosed, she's having chemo now. I bought the book for my friend, but bought another copy so I'd know what it's all about.

Kerry made me laugh and weep, but mostly she made me laugh.

If you're affected by breast cancer, in whatever form or however it affects you, whether you have it or are close to someone who has it, I'd recommend this book before all of the leaflets they give you in hospital.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for cancer patients 29 Nov 2012
By Clive
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
"Funny, sad, touching, happy, thoughtful, positive, pragmatic, enjoyable, well written. Loved it" Kerry and I are friends on Twitter, and that's what I said to her when I finished reading this book. But despite having declared that interest, I would have said exactly the same thing to the author whoever she was. This book is all of those things, written by someone who is 'an ordinary person' just like you and me, but whose strength of character, resolve, spirit, sense of humour and sheer bloody mindedness combine to help her take on and beat the big C. Double Decker Bus is essential reading for anyone whose life is affected in any way by cancer. But it is also the most rewarding book I have read for ages about what being a caring, feeling human being is all about, and should be read by everyone. Maybe the author isn't so 'ordinary' after all.....
