The finer points of dosage theory continue to allude the average UK based punter; and it continues to be seen as something of a black art, pursued by the like sof Nick Mordin et al.
Here for the first time, Steve Roman, the founder of dosage theory lays out the nuts and bolts of dosage theory - from what dosage is, to how to apply it when handicapping a race. The book includes data on some 20,000 races and explains such concepts as dual qualifiers, dominant classicity etc
An invaluable guide to dosage, which will provide those who are prepared to read it a significant competitive advantage relative to their fellow punters!

The Roman Dosage book is excellent.
So much data has been recorded linking the relationship thoroughbred speed and stamina performance in the high profile races, showing their genetic predisposition for such results to be predictable, due to their breeding.
Excellent for those wanting to breed a successful racehorse, whether they want a sprinter or a classic distance horse and also for those wanting help in predicting race outcomes.
Roman Dosage is well respected in America but hasn't really caught on in UK ( yet ). However I'm sure it will if more British breeders read the book, validate it with a little of their own research and start adopting the principles.
Also there is far too much indiscriminate thoroughbred breeding in this country. At the sales there are too many lower quality horses being bought up by the meatman.
This situation could be allieviated by more considerate, educated breeding, by understanding the principles of Roman Dosage.

Just another theory 21 July 2013

It is an interesting theory and may give indication of likely distance progeny will handle but I won't be using it when we breed our thoroughbred mare. Too many influences are not taken into account.
