Dorset Cereals revised their range in 2012 and this is the new version of the old 'Super High Fibre'. The formulation has only changed slighty, and the new name suits it better because this particular cereal isn't particularly higher in fibre than others in the Dorset range (although it's far, far better than most mainstream cereals).
Since we first discovered Dorset Cereals about three or four years ago, we've become complete converts to the brand. On the rare occasions when we do eat other cereals, they are feeble by comparison! We rate Dorsets really highly for flavour, keeping us full all morning even when active, and for using unrefined ingredients and very little salt. However, if you haven't tried them before, then you might need to know a little more about them, so hopefully this info will help you...

The Dorset range started with basic but VERY hearty muesli. These are often extremely chewy and filling; you really don't need a big portion to keep you going until lunchtime. In recent years they have added extra varieties and different types; we eat their light-flakes, granola, crunch, and porridges as well as the original mueslis. The individual flavours and styles of cereal can be quite different, so it's worth checking that you've chosen a type to match your tastes and situation. For instance, the high-fibre muesli is *really* chewy and dense, and most of the Dorset mueslis have a high ratio of fruit and nuts to cereals. So they take quite a long time to eat and digest - the are low-to-medium glycaemic index, for anyone who is interested in that kind of thing -- but they are also quite calorific. (Nuts and dried fruit tend to be full of energy).

"honest, tasty and real"

I am a great fan of Dorset Cereals' late yet great product, "Super High Fibre" muesli. Quite partial was I to the light, crunchy, malted texture of toasted wheat and oat flakes - although I never gave much thought to the fact that in 2008, the 730g carton contained 11 tasty, dust-free servings at a thoroughly decent price of £2.80... until now.

Alas, "Super High Fibre" is no more. Dorset Cereals have consigned their scary-sounding box of "unadulterated breakfast pleasure" to the great cereal bowl in the sky, replacing it with the "I've changed my name" box of "toasted coconut and wheat flakes" (14 glorious bowlfuls, 670g), now officially labelled "the muesli formerly known as super high fibre". True, the original's daunting name did have a "don the rubber gloves" feel...

What's changed? Or, to be more precise: "why has super high fibre become toasted coconut & wheat flakes?" According to the website: "Well... you told us that Super High Fibre is a tasty bowlful of toasted, coconutty, wheaty, crispy loveliness, and we though it deserved a name that better reflected this. After a great deal of thought, we came up with: Toasted Coconut & Wheat Flakes. Makes sense, no?" I did admit in a review I wrote in 2008 that the predecessor was a delightful mouthful of "hearty crunch, a raisin or two, perhaps a wafer-thin sliver of toasted, crispy coconut..." And I stand by that description to this day.

Doubtless you spotted that the new box carries 14 servings in 670g, whereas its predecessor proclaimed "this pack will make about 11 bowlfuls", with 730g in the box. If you missed that, well, here's what has to say: "why is toasted coconut & wheat flakes smaller than super high fibre was?
