My Thoughts: For a low budget film that claimed to be nothing more than a thriller, I found myself to be pleasantly surprised by this little gem. It goes back to basics, no need for special effects, witty dialogue and gore. This is a simple psychological horror more than a thriller. The mood is set perfectly on a dismal (perhaps fictional?) island in Ireland that gives off an intense sense reminiscent of "The Wicker Man" (original version) with a story that is vaguely touching the mirrors of "The Sixth Sense" and "Case 39" (but in a slightly more twisted way). The characters are well drawn but not too interesting, the dialogue is realistic and straightforward, forgoing the usual eloquence and wit of your usual main characters in this type of genre.
As low budget as this was, I was delighted and intrigued by the film, and will definitely be recommending it to all fans of the psychological horror genres.
The Story: Jane van Dopp, a psychiatrist still reeling from her young son's death is sent to a remote island in Ireland to treat Dorothy Mills, an unusual teenaged girl who has been recently registered to the sex offenders list after she was caught molesting a baby she was being paid to sit.
At first the case seems simple, as Dorothy is odd in comparison to regular teenaged girls with her albino blonde hair, wide grey eyes and odd childish sense of dress. As Jane delves into Dorothy's case she begins to uncover what she believes may be an extreme case of multiple personality disorder. But as time goes on, Jane finds herself haunted by strange music from the room above where no-one lives, and the odd revelations of Dorothy's personalities leave her struggling to stay sane.
