I purchased these lightweight hand held units for a holiday to USA, they seemes like they would be ideal in the Florida fun parks for commuication with my children. We leave in December but thought that we would try them out at home first. The units are small , easy to use and light weight, everything was looking great , inside my home, the radios operated Ok, I have a 7 bedroomed home with 3 floors, and no matter where the children wandered, we had comm's, albeit a little crackly . I then decided to try it outdoors and here is where the units failed, after a gap (not line of sight) of approx 300m, the radios became inaudiable, just hiss which is not "Long Range" as advertised. I paid significantly more for these becasue I wanted the reliability for my children, but alas, they are little better than the "Action Man" toys my youngest son had for £20.
Maybe in a field with no obstacles and line of site you may get the advertised distance, but in the real world, why would you need the radios if you can see each other?
Overall, I am dissappointed and the radios wont be making the trip , they will remain Toys at home for chatting between floors.
