3.0 out of 5 stars Great but ......, 8 Jul 2009
By Marie Allen (Kent) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I got this monitor a year ago for a friend wedding so I could monitor my child's sleeping in an old building. I know from experience of living in older houses that most on the market just don't penatrate the thick walls....this one does!
It beeps if you ask for beep, it doesn't if you switch the beep off. The beep is the baby end comunicating with your end so you know you haven't lost the signal. The battery lasts ages and you can get earpieces to fit so you can monitor personally without everyone else having to listen to your childs chatter. You can also adjust the sensitivity of what it picks up. Basically I loved it but.....
After almost exactly 12 months it stopped working. I contacted Amazon and Doro but because it was days outside its 12 month gaurentee no one would help.
I will be buying another one exactly the same as I have another wedding this winter and I'm not prepared to go to bed at 7 and listen to a 4 year old snoring if I can listen from downstairs. It was just disapointing that it broke after 12 months. Fingers crossed for the second one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent long-range monitor for big or old houses, or for WiFi, 8 Jul 2009
By Andrew Oakley (Gloucestershire, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If you've got a big or old house, or would like to keep an ear on your baby whilst doing a spot of gardening, or if your nursery is in a basement flat, or you need a monitor to work in any other high-penetration or long-range situation, the Doro BM35 PMR Baby Monitor is ideal. It is also perfect for avoiding WiFi wireless internet interference.

It has a variable sensitivity dial on the back, so you can adjust it so that it activates when your baby cries at a level you think is sufficiently significant. Anyone who has problems with this model, simply adjust the dial to a lower or higher setting, it's easy.

It uses the freely available PMR446 walkie-talkie frequencies, which means you can buy additional receivers (handsets) very cheaply. This also means it never interferes with your wireless network (WiFi internet). On the down side, anyone else with a PMR walkie-talkie can also listen in to, and potentially interfere with, the baby monitor. You can switch channels to avoid interference and shut off other people talking on the same channel, but you can't prevent other people from listening in. In practice, walkie-talkie use is very rare these days, as most people have switched to mobile phones, so the chance of interference or listening in is pretty unlikely.

The monitor is reasonably robust but is a little wobbly when stood on a shelf, easily knocked over. My solution was to use cable ties to secure the unit to my daughter's cot bars.

It also has a number of other non-baby related practical uses. For example our local historical society uses it to co-ordinate historical explorations from whichever room has been designated as a control centre.

For range and clarity, the Doro BM35 can't be beaten.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is very complicated to use, 4 Jul 2009
By C. J. sochovsky "cj" (london) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is very complicated to use, it beeps at you all the time and I'm not sure why. I'm never sure whether it's picking up the babies or not as once it was quiet and I went to the babies and they were both screaming. Then my 2 year old pulled the baby unit off the shelf onto the carpet and it broke. I would recommend the BT monitor over this although it doesn't have the long range.
