"Doric for Swots" is the long-awaited sequel to "Teach Yourself Doric" and is for the more advanced student. It contains extracts from the golden treasury of North-east literature, covering several regional areas and many different periods of time. Each chapter concludes with a set of "mind-stretching" questions to answer before passing on to the next. Complete with Rabbie's Recipe, the Bard's recipe for haggis and Awa at the Assembly, and many other items featured on the "Teach Yourself Doric" cassette that have never been published in a book before. However, this is not your run-of-the-mill study book; here, humour is mixed with vocabulary, sense with nonsense. To quote the author: "The spelling and usage of this very, some might call, 'eccentric' language varies considerably and any reader confused by these irregularities has much in common with the author, who finds them totally bewildering." An entertaining and lively book with more than a hint of instruction.
