This was a good read - a little different from most of her Thomas Pitt stories but very enjoyable - you have to wait till the last page to find the outcome.

As a detective story it was overly repetitive with constant reminders and discussions of suspects' motives and the author's clues to villain's identity glaringly spelt out; it only improved when the plot unravelled in the last few chapters. 'No finer detective in Victorian London than Thomas Pitt?' I am sorry but I was not persuaded to read any more about him.

More politically based than Perry's other Thomas Pitt works, takes a long time for the story to take off but is worth the wait.
