Format: Audio CD
This is one of the best r&b cds I've bought in a long time, and I've bought a few, I can tell you! The sound quality is tip-top and the music just jumps out of the speakers, full marks to the Ace mastering maestro. 90% of the tunes are solid jivers, whilst the remainder are cool blues of the slow head-nodding variety (nice) Highlights for me are the Roy Milton tracks especially I want to go home. I loved Ernie Freeman's swelling organ on Groovy Boogie, there's something about the r&b organ...I just can't put my finger on it...but it's really uplifting. the Chuck Higgins tracks just boot along brilliantly, great band! Finally, from the distaff side,(I've always wanted to use that phrase)Mickey Champion with Bam-a-lam and Helen Humes with her Woojamacooja add some fine rockin' performances to the mix. If asked to vote on the matter, I'd give this cd 9 out of 10 - great stuff!
