Product Description

Product Description

This is a charming collection of short stories set beside photographs of doorbell panels in Florence, Italy. The stories are whimsical, quirky, sometimes laugh-out-loud funny, and sometimes beautifully poignant. The author, a British journalist who lives in various cities around Europe, took the photos on a visit to Florence and wrote fictional musings on who lives at each of these residences, what happens behind these walls, or why a particular buzzer appears as it does.

5.0 out of 5 stars Peaceful Enjoyment, 2 Sep 2009
This review is from: The Doorbells of Florence (Hardcover)
This lovely little book accompained me on a journey back from Italy and the only thing I wished was that it had lasted longer.... The stories are so gentle but wonderous, the emergence of common threads through them gave a subtle connection. The seperate stories felt almost like poetry that could stand alone. Some of my favourite were those that were pictures with very little writing. Amusing and beautiful this book deserves lots of attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book. Beautiful stories., 2 July 2009

This review is from: The Doorbells of Florence (Hardcover)
I was really taken with the design - beautiful hand-lettered titles for the story, imaginative layout and then the photos themselves, full of intriguing details. But the really impressive part was the stories themselves - reading them reminded me of being read to as a child, they have a sense of wonder in them, even though there's no overt fantasy. Their quite beauty and gentle humour put a smile on my face for days - it was like someone had come up and given me a two Euro coin.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book worth keeping., 4 May 2009
By ollondo - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Doorbells of Florence (Hardcover)
Losowsky crafts stories about the residents of Florence from clues on their doorbells. These three-dozen glimpses range from a few sentences to a half-dozen pages, making for a fun and beautifully-written book to browse at your leisure. It's at once a quirky guide to a city and a spotlight on a piece of technology we rarely give a second glance. Excellent attention paid to design, with full color photographs, imaginative lettering, and heavy paper. A book for the library, backpack, purse, and back pocket. A book worth keeping.

5.0 out of 5 stars A charming book., 30 Jun 2009
By B. Dana - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Doorbells of Florence (Hardcover)
This is quite a charming book. One can look through the photos with pleasure and read the stories behind the doorbells at random. I gave this book to a very ill friend who loved it. The size made it easy for her to hold and the quick stories were fun and distracting. I looked at the photos a couple of times before reading any of the wonderful stories that are associated with the doorbells. Nice to own and lovely to give as a gift.
