This dvd does not have any extras, no language options, no subtitles, not even scene select, which I can't say I was impressed with. And though the cast try hard to generate some interest, and make plenty of references to the original Doomwatch, it never really comes off. The plot is not that exciting or even interesting, there is far too much scientific gibberish spouted (a thing the original series usually managed to avoid), and the ending anti-climactic. Some of the new characters are interesting, but others are simply too stupid to be believable (like the supposedly intelligent woman - SPOILER COMING - who decides to carry on breaking into a secret establishment when she has been warned very convincingly that she is visible to their security cameras, for no other reason than to provide some spurious thrills as she gets chased around and trapped in the zone of greatest peril). Hero Neil Tanahill's wife is made a classically trained singer for no apparent reason, leading to the most unconvincing piece of miming I have ever seen when she 'sings' at a funeral. It is padded out with pointless chases, meaningless quotes and laboured messages, some of which might have worked better with a better sound quality. Slow, about thirty minutes too long, and garbled.

Doomwatch: Winter Angel is a must see if you like end of the world dramas, trevor eve is excellent in the drama with a good back up cast. There is a good story line explaining what can happen when science goes bad, anyone interested in the Large Hadron Collider in Cern will be interested in this drama.

This was intended as a pilot for a possible relaunch of "Doomwatch", BBC1's 1960s scientific dangers series. Trevor Eve stars as Neil Tannahill, a well repsected scientist, who has been offered a very presitigious jobe abroad. However he is drawn into an investigation of the Winter Angel- a top secret project. Others who have been investigating disappear or are killed. Dr Spencer Quist, Tannahill's old mentor and former head of Doomwatch, tries to get him to take an interest. And.... spoilers!

This is an excellent programme, The action is gripping and tautly directed. It is also unbelievably bleak. Trevor Eve makes a likeable hero. Amanda Ooms is excellent as his wife. His two daughters are good too.

It's a shame that this didn't become a series. I believe it was all down to cost.
