I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel and highly recommend it. The story-line has multiple plots with lots of twists and turns, and I really did not want to put the book down until the end. The setting is North Cornwall, mainly around the River Camel, but some of the action is up the coast towards Tintagel. It is an area I know well, and I enjoyed the authentic detail, as well as meeting the various characters. I hope this is going to be the first of many Cornish mysteries by David Burnell.

It is rare that I buy a book one day and have read it two days later, but it was true for Doom Watch.

I have not book like this for years and was not sure what I would make of it. It is easy to read and gripping. The main characters in the story thread well between the chapters and come together convincingly at the end.

If you know Cornwall, enjoy the atmosphere of the coastline and have an interest in mathematics then you will appreciate this book all the more.

This book is a good read, and is an intriguing quiet story following a dramatic start. It has a gentle pace which draws the reader in, with the characters being very believable. My only criticism is that the gentle pace becomes a canter at the end, and the ending seems a little rushed, but this does not detract from the real enjoyment of the book. The book is published on superb paper and this and the size make it a pleasure to hold and handle. A very good read!

This book really captures the spirit of Cornwall. The characters and the landscape were so well observed and described, I felt as if I was there. I read the book in a couple of days and, as the plot developed, I found it more and more difficult to put down. Despite trying to put together all the clues in the book, I still couldn't work out the ending until I got there. Hopefully there will be more in the series and I am looking forward to reading them.

This is a highly enjoyable read. What I most appreciated about the author's style of writing, was his geographical knowledge of Cornwall and his ability to weave this into the narrative. Having spent some holidays down there, I was able to picture the story while also learning some new things about the area. In fact, reading the book turned me into a 'Doom Watch' tourist as I visited some of the sights mentioned in the book.

Bought as a present for my sister-in-law: she writes: "I loved it! I think on its own merits it is a very good piece of detective fiction, but for me it was very special because I know that part of Cornwall so well. Almost all my childhood holidays were spent at Polzeath and I know that part of the coastline very well. I would love to read any others that he has written."

An easy to read book which progresses well and consequently maintains and develops interest. The characters are interesting and there are some elements of dry well placed humour. The locations are described interestingly and have intrigued me enough to go and explore them for them myself. I'd highly recommend this book as a good entertaining read!
