About the Author

Taro Gomi is probably best known in the UK for the highly popular Doodle Books, although his creative genius actually extends much further than the few translations that have appeared in English. The total number of his books in print in Japan exceeds three hundred, including children's books, art books, essay collections, and more. Gomi's books appeal to both adults and children - since most of them consist mainly of pictures, they can be enjoyed by anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely worth the money 4 Dec 2011
By vbird
Format:Paperback
I wish there were more choice in writing/drawing books for children that showed (and encouraged) as much imagination as this. It's a big interactive book with prompts and suggestions on each page, with plenty of room for children to react and interpret the prompts in their own individual way. Stimulating and inspiring colouring/drawing book: expensive until you see how good it is - after that, worth every penny. Not the first Taro Gomi book I have bought and won't be the last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant present for kids, particularly girls 1 Aug 2011
By S. Lane
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have given this book to three 5 year old girls as birthday presents and they have all LOVED it.
It is such a great idea as it gives a suggestion as to what the kids can draw and also leaves the space for the kids to make their own creations / drawings.
It is a large book, so it's not suitable to carry everywhere, however it is perfect for home or when going away on holiday for a while.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm sure this will be a hit with my niece. 9 Jun 2009
By Joanie
Format:Paperback
This is the second Doodle book that I've bought for my niece. She couldn't put the first one down and I'm sure she'll be the same with this one when we give it to her as one of her birthday gifts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best coloring book for adults 12 Jan 2008
By Kathleen Derevan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I am an adult that still likes crayons, I'll admit it! But the coloring books that I found were clearly geared to the 5-year-olds, and that was a little young even for me. This book (and its companion volumes) is perfect for a doodler and crayon user of any age. Fun to leave out with crayons and pens, and watch who starts to doodle. It is irresistible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun for the whole family 2 Mar 2008
By C. Moffat - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I have bought this and other Taro Gomi books. They are all wonderful books that help you and your kids expand your imaginations. Lots of fun - more than traditional colouring books. And this one is a good size for tucking in your tote bag to take on the road/restaurants and the like. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars All Ages Covered 6 Oct 2008
By Nancy J. Baumann - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a marvelous book. No matter the age of the child this book accommodates. All you need add is imagination. All skill levels apply. I bought a number of these books and added boxes of colored pencils for my grandchildren. Everyone of them is at a different age but it didn't matter. They loved this book!

By Nancy D. Owen - Published on Amazon.com

I was given this book as a present for my daughter and I want to keep it myself! It is a completely different approach to a coloring book. Sparks the imagination, makes you feel a little silly and wonderful at the same time! My daughter loves it.

5.0 out of 5 stars finally! a coloring book that is entertaining for parents too 29 May 2009
By jacquesmama - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I bought this at the Art Museum bookstore for a friend's 3-year old a year ago and it is one of their favorite gifts! The pages are more interactive than most books with pages like, "the alligators are cold, can you draw them coats?" The child's mom says she and grandma got just as much enjoyment out of it has he did because the book is funny, clever, and so creative and different than most coloring books for kids. The drawings are simple and there's a lot more white space than in most coloring books which is why I thought this would work for a 3 year old, there's plenty of room for him to color outside the lines. I just purchased another book in the "Scribbles" series for his birthday for this year, it'll last him another year and now that he's old I think the Scribbles series might be a little better for his age group.
