Written from the perspective of Lily, a preschooler, this story recounts a day when Lily's usual routine goes out of the window and her response - "don't want to go" - to it out of fear and uncertainty.
My daughter totally (2) seems to identify with the narrative. As a sometimes-reluctant preschooler too, this is all to the good as it successfully shows the adult's perspective and reflects the child's point of view.
This lesson of the tale is that by sometimes doing what we have to - going to spend the day with a family friend instead of staying with her mum, who is ill - can have good outcomes. Needless to say, from being reluctant to go Lily doesn't want to go home at the end when her dad comes to pick her up.
As ever, the pleasure in this simple story are as much in the illustrations as the narrative. (Love the page that mirrors the sticking activity, in particular.)
