About the Author
Steve Smallman lives in Staffordshire with his wife and the two youngest of his four children. He has been illustrating books for over thirty years, and writing his own stories for the past five. Steve won the Sheffield Children's Book Award in 2009 with Smelly Peter - The Great Pea Eater.

I originally took this book out of the library for my daughter and was so captivated by it that I bought a copy for her. We read it regularly and delight in the wonderful illustrations. We can pretty much recite it word for word now. It's gentle rhyme and message continue to enthrall my daughter many months after we first met the sleeping bear.

My child loves this book and we have read it many times when she was between one and two years old. There is a great bit where a balloon goes pop and we make loud noises and clap our hands. lots of animals to point at.
